I don't get it

There's nothing to get, it's just a poignant way of equating tears to painful moments in his past. I like the line for that simple reason and the way it's delivered. Matter fact I love that whole first verse, the way it flows, the way it breaks down how he views certain relationships he has with people.

"I survived readin guys like you/
I'm surprised ya'll think ya'll can disguise your truths
"

Think of how many people from his past heard that line and instantly knew it applied to them. From Kanye to Dame to Dehaven to Jaz to Beans.

It's like Beans once said in an interview that this nikka writes slick shyt knowin that only one or two people in the world know that it's aimed at them and he'll leave it at that.

Y'all body language is all remedial
How could you
see the difference between you and I?
My crash course was much tougher
'round friends who kill they friends
Then hug their friends' mothers
And show up at the funeral, complete with
blank stares
Invisible ink, I had to read things that wasn't there
Memories may sneak down my cheek (tears)
But I could see a side-eye in my sleep - Caught Their Eyes

The whole 1st verse is flooded with eye references, all in line with the sample

The Juice reference was slick too

This verse and in particular the section you quoted, is fukking fantastic. It's an incredible picture he painted, and something he hasn't done in a long while.

To me, this verse is similar to the 2nd verse on D'evils... "We used to fight for building blocks, now we fight for blocks with building that make a killin'..."

A lot of people get caught up in wordplay, multi-syllabic rhymes and long-winded similes that they mistake for metaphors, but it's verses, and lines like the ones above that cement Hov as the GOAT to me, and why no matter what anyone says about him, they'll never change my mind about that.

The idea of equating a stone faced person showing up to the funeral of a "friend" he probably had something to do with the demise of, to having to decipher a message on paper written in invisible ink is akin to Game of Thrones, Deadwood, Sopranos dialogue in terms of quality.

It reminds me of a line in Game of Thrones I've never forgotten, when someone summed up Littlefinger, and his way of interfering with other people's plans to his own gain - "He would see the whole world burn if it meant he could be King of the ashes"

To me, at his best, Hov writes at that level.

And on top of that the beat fukkin' knocks...

I love hip-hop
