Jay made it cool to not rely on the trap sound, and for that, I salute him

True

But honestly that's not even the problem

Like a poster earlier said

"This don't bump in the whip"

And?

Like dudes now a days don't even care about lyrical content

Just bangin beats

The production has been out weighing the lyrics for a number of years now

Ya so big on beats

Should just cop instrumental albums then

"Too many words" ass dudes lol

Jay is ahead of it all
At first I was worried about No ID doing the whole thing. He has classics, but those recent Common albums were a bit bland imo

No ID took the best elements of his core sound (raw drums, soul chops) but added to it by using different sample sources and having the loops evolve and switch up as the track plays. Lots of little intricacies and sounds sprinkled in.

Hopefully this reminds people that sampling is an art, and there is a legit craft to it beyond simple ass loops and stock drums

I'd love to hear the instrumentals on there own too

This also DOES bang, people have become conditioned to hearing a certain sound

I also don't think this is the final mix and some slight adjustments would do magic to this album

To pimp a butterfly changed the rap game.

Don't you ever try and give hov credit for the Age of the Woke .

I'm happy hov finally came around in his 13th album.

But don't you forgot Nas dropped hip hop is dead , untiltled, and distant relatives a long time ago. And he was kilt by you Jay Z Stan's.

Stay consistent or take heed to your ignorance.

i know this probably been covered but I wonder how much of Kill Jay-z is about Kanye. I took it as a 1st person introspection. But all over the internet everyone is attributing the "drop out of school, backstab you, fukk everybody attitude, if everyone is crazy you're insane" was specifically about Kanye. I actually think this was an introspection of himself and he's calling himself insane, not Kanye.

Some poster will come in here on that of course it's obvious, but i've seen 3 or 4 articles saying Jayz disses Kanye or Jayz calls Kanye insane .

I dont think it's any crazy conceptual type of record. I don't even think Jay takes Kanye's rants all that seriously. He's like that family member whose ALWAYS spazzing out but at the end of the day you know it's all love

I'm starting to think the problem with those Common albums wasn't NO ID but rather Common. No ID put out heat rocks with every other artist he's been working with the past 8 or so years. He gave Nas absolute FIRE on LIG and helped Jay craft something incredible.

Common must've just liked those subpar beats on Nobody smiling for some reason.

But Common bounced back with Black America Again. That was my personal AOTY for 2016

I didn't mention any other album but damn. If you haven't noticed the brilliance of "Damn" thats not on me, thats on you and your ignorance.

Jay is so predictable. My prediction is this will be Jays most afrocentric album to date. It will be his most "woke" album to date. And lets not act like thats not the influence of artists like Kendrick and J Cole.

Mark my words, "Damn" will go down in history as one of the greats. It blows away anything Eminem has created. It is that phenomenal of an album.

I posted this a few weeks ago in this thread.

Like I Said Jay is a predictable trend hopper. You can see this woke album coming from miles away. But of course Stans thinking he's doing some unique on this album and is so profound. fukk outta here sheep.

Great album but it is overwhelmingly racist. And I'm scared to listen to it with my white friends so I canceled our planned listening party. We cant bop to this as a group.

I'm white I wasn't offended by one thing on this album. Black empowerment isn't racism, and any white person who takes it as such is a racist themselves.
