I'm a fan of both and Jay has no consensus classics since Black Album. While Kanye's last consensus classic was Graduation or MBDTF depending on your preference.

That's not knocking Jay's early discography though.

Music is subjective. there's no such thing as "consensus classic" when it comes to music. it's just a term dweebs came up with to argue among themselves. what u may call classic another person may call trash.
I've heard many ppl consider American Gangsta Jay's last classic, yet u differ, to each his own.
In short, Hov don't need Kanye to make great music. Even when he was making music with Kanye, Kanye wasn't the only producer Hov was working with
