What's bitwtiThis is dope as fukk to me favorite joint so far is Ghost of Soulija Slim, The Blinding(Sounds very Watch The Throne'ish and then that beat switch ), The Neverending Story, Universal Soldier , Flux Capacitor, Fruits Of The Spirit, & A.P.I.D.T.A. (Great way to end the album) just great all around(Yeaahhh little kids voice).
However the album would've been perfect with having a joint or 2 from Just Blaze or songs like B.I.T.W.T.I & Exhibit C type of tracks just to round it out. Not having Just Blaze kinda does a slight disservice to putting this over the top, but that takes nothing away from this outstanding piece of work since they still killed it tho. Jay-Z sounds like Dynasty/ Black Album version of himself.
I don't care what anyone says, it's still Jay Elec debut just guest starring Hov; yeah it's the cheat code but so what, if you didn't have a problem with this classic
Then there shouldn't be problem with how A Written Testimony is laid out.
Jay Electronica for finally dropping hopefully this opened pandora's box and we can finally get a Nas/ Premo album & Detox. Great album overall i give it a 4.5/5
Few thoughts:
1. Album is cool. Dope even. But I wouldn't put anything on here next to the "Exhibit" series, or any of the random ass Jay Elec songs like "Eternal Sunshine....", etc. Which is fine but if this wasn't his "official" debut album it could be a random release of his from any time in the last 10 years or so.
2. I wish it was just Jay Elec. Jay-Z is cool but given his pandering to the NFL his content on this album seemed kinda contrived.
3. The beats aren't bad but he obviously did a bunch of shyt with Just Blaze so for his debut to feature like....90% of the beats produced by himself....is kinda a head scratcher.
4. As far as the content don't really care either way. I don't get people listening to a Jay Elec album and complaining about the content. You know what the fukk he raps about. It would be like complaining about Gibbs rapping about gangster shyt.
Fred.
He DID do a bunch of stuff with Blaze but Jay Elect’s official debut tape was him producing his own shyt. So it stands to follow that he’d produce on his own debut album.
I know but Just Blaze has played at least a few Jay Elec songs that were never released. You'd think for an album people have been waiting on for 10 years, he wouldn't treat it the same as his debut tape.
And honestly Just Blaze is emblematic of my over all point. Jay Elec is well liked among hip-hop's elite....he could probably get beats from pretty much anyone he wanted.
Fred.
Your right. None of what you are saying is arguable.
All i’m saying is that Jay Elect more than likely PREFERS to produce his own stuff. He’s an auteur, meaning he is deeply involved in every facet of his projects. Its probably part of the reason it took so long for the album to drop
