Props to all the folks in this thread with a level head and saw the wisdom in his decision.

Paternal granddad had a farm which the family didn't keep for various reasons, but today I wish I had that land and farming knowledge . Wish I was 1/10 the man he was for leaving the city and following his dreams and aspirations.

Went to a in-law family event this past summer in Farmville, NC, yes Farm-ville and was highly impressed with the success and self sufficiency of the peeps in Pitt County.

Cat learned his 2nd profession and lifetime on Youtube. Flipping all the way BOSS move.

to his credit, the president signed the farm bill after it lingered for about 20 years in the nation's capitol.

Story kinda reminds me of Bo Jackson except he was injured when he retired. He took his money and lived a quiet humble life after the NFL/MLB.

Thats cool. I want a simple life one day too. But at like 50 not 30.

And if he really wanted to help people he should invest that money and make some moves. HE could bring in a big return on 25 million and that would feed a lot more poor people then his farm.
But this is how he chose to help. You can't tell someone who's helping to "help differently." What he's doing is a good thing. Don't lose sight of that.

:why:

He's a grown ass man and can do what he wants with HIS life and HIS money. What grounds do you have to stand on to chastise him for not doing both? :mindblown:

Lol nikka fall back. Wasn't chastising shyt, was just giving my thoughts and opinions on it like we tend to do round these parts.

Of course the man can do what he wants. God bless him for wanting to make a difference. On the face of the story tho the man didn't quit for fear of destroying his body. He just woke up one day, said I quit and I'm gonna go into farming to feed ppl. That's dumb to me. Also the story just doesn't make it clear about the money part so I'm talking on that aspect too. I would have liked to have heard what his plans are going forward without that NFL paycheck outside of just farming and giving out food to the needy. Tell me he has other businesses or he has investments, etc... and i'm fine with the story.

Ppl in here adding there own spin on the shyt tho to fit their arguments. He has the right to do whatever makes him happy but in his position, with the money he's made and the money he's potentially leaving on the table, he should also be smart about his money going forward. It seems to me the story left out the money aspect in order to play up this message of doing what you love irregardless of what you make.. That part I don't agree with. I've said many times that the ultimate power in money is to make more money with it. So I can't co-sign anyone leaving a multi-million dollar gig without something else in place to keep generating something close to that amount. I hope he's smarter than than to throw his career away for just farming.

Football is a brutal sport. I only played through college and I had to get a knee surgery and back surgery from the after effects. I salute the dude for leaving on his own terms and I like that he is benefiting his community through his work. Nothing but props. Farming is a grind though, my grandpops inherited a farm from a family he was a sharecropper for and I worked there sometimes as a kid, but it does feel rewarding after a hard days work and working with your hands can be therapeutic. I'm also impressed he picked up farming through youtube lol.

I really respect this :salute:

sidenote, youtube is the shyt :wow:

It's no reason to not have a skill in 2014 when there's Youtube with the internet and Youtube.

The dude I used to buy "herbs" from in college told me that he learned all about homebased hydroponics on Youtube and built his setup in a few days :banderas:
