I live in NC.. learned a good bit about growing as well as farming since I moved here..
a lot of Black folks here have farms & land from over 100yrs ago..

Sweet potatoes are a big deal in NC..... Once the for-profit farmers get the best pickings they use to let people go in the fields and take what they wanted out the field (community groups would go in there and pick them up for elderly and lower income folks)....as recently as 2 years ago...but in some places farmers are basically destroying the "leftover" sweet potatoes or giving away rotten ones.....I don't know how prevalent they are destroying the sweet potato fields, but this is a great story ...good stuff...
