From what I remember, most of the time it was Inoki that was telling Ogawa to pull all this crap in matches. He became very good friends with Hashimoto, even after he was basically used to ruin him, so much so that he refused to believe his death after the hemorrhage that killed him.

Ogawa would probably be remembered very differently if his NJPW career wasn't shepherded by an insane person.

Yeah the Observers are mentioning that Ogawa wants to help Hash with Zero-One and even give him his win(s) back. Also states that Ogawa and Inoki aren't quite as tight as people think. I have to say I enjoy watching Ogawa, there's a real sense of chaos with everything he does (shooting on people will do that I suppose). But all those matches are just the complete opposite to NJPW main events now. Okada is very smooth and proficient and the like but it's all very... sophisticated. I like some lunacy in my wrestling.

Fujita just won the strap from Scott Norton(?) too. He's fighting Takayama in Pride and Takayama wants the title on the line :heh: Completely bizarre. I'm more into following 2001 week by week than 2019.

Well, Inokism was the highest levels of fukkery with the highest stakes on the line. That's why people like to watch it so much now that it's in the distant past and doesn't have the "this is literally helping kill the biggest promotion in the country" vibe.

Fujita was always awful though, 2001, 2019, that motherfukker will always be Baron Corbin status.

Looking at some older NJPW matches with the current style in mind can be really jarring. I was just watching some early Hashimoto stuff (late 80s-early 90s) last week and I was struck by how rough everything was. Basically nothing is hit or applied cleanly, there's palpable struggle over everything...the matches just look like fights even when they're clearly worked.

Interestingly enough, this sacrifice of execution for struggle actually made me more interested in the matches, because it all added to the narratives the matches built. Like, Hashimoto wildly kicking at Vader's arm is so invigorating when you've just watched him get clobbered by all manner of lariats, punches, and forearm strikes. I get into that stuff much more than the smoothly executed and choreographed stuff we're inundated with these days.

Well, we are also talking about Hash though, one of the legit GOATs.

I still think you can do both things though. Fuminori Abe is damn good at striking a balance of both struggle and execution.

Why is Naito looking so flabby and sick at the minute? Is he injured?

It's not a physique befitting an IWGP champion....Gedo made the right call:mjgrin::umad:

Yuji Okabayashi vs Daichi Hashimoto - BJW 4/14/19
Yuji Okabayashi vs. Daichi Hashimoto

Yuji gives Daichi an awesome match once again :banderas: first exchange is Okabayashi trying a simple arm lock but Hashimoto is able to reverse it and work Yuji's biggest weapon. That lasts like 2 minutes. From that point forward, it's all about Oka being awesome doing great strengths spots and brutal chops to decimate his opponent. Daichi is game, taking the beating and showing good fire and good strikes (with some beastly kicks). Crowd goes from complete respectful silence to :krs: for the last few minutes. Can't blame them, this was great :obama:

Takuya Nomura vs Daichi Hashimoto - BJW 4/11/19

Daichi Hashimoto vs. Takuya Nomura

This lasts 10 minutes but to be honest, the first half is pretty meh. They just trade strikes but it's not their best stuff. Once they start throwing out kicks, around half way through this turns around though. 5 minutes of fire :blessed:

No Champion Carnival talk? I've seen all the shows are up at XWT but no one is talking about matches to check :patrice:

How do you get on that site? By invite? I went and it said registration was open, when I tried to sign up, it told me I couldn't. :manny:

I got on years ago by registration. Registrations are open except around WWE PPV weekends. If that doesn't work for any reason, invitations are your best bet (I don't have any, btw. My ratio is not very good.)
