Not surprised. Even when TNA was "hotter" in 09', the japanese fans barely reacted to them and never saw them as a big deal when they did joint shows.

Hotter than what? Luke warm bath water which my cats baths in?

So AJ won the title, and Yujiro for some reason defected from CHAOS to Bullet Club :heh:

This is a massive step up for Styles though considering where he was 5 months ago.

I dont mind AJ winning the belt as that may have been the plan if Devitt stayed but why is Yujiro jumping ship? Maybe itll make better sense when I watch it?

Can't be mad at AJ winning the title. Now comes the difficult part, good booking and him stepping up to become a legit star in Japan.

The ending to the main is getting hated on pretty hard and I have to say I agree. No place for those types of finishes in NJPW, I'm not even the biggest fan of the product right now but you always expect clean finishes to world title matches in Japan, well in recent decades anyway. Booking has been in thrall to US style stuff for a while now and I've hated all of it from the Bullet Club to this. Wonder how the Japanese fans will react to the finish and AJ as champ, I could be totally wrong with this shyt :heh:
Gracies are a huge flop. Suzuki/Yano still feuding. Wes Brisco. :upsetfavre: At least Ishii is still doing his thing.

Seems Shibata vs Nagata and Ishii vs Ibushi is set up for Yokohama.

People getting mad at the Bullet Club is the funniest thing to me. It's SUCH a well done traditional heel stable act. Brehs just don't have any appreciation for the classics.

That's booking 101. A title switch with the biggest face in the company still being protected but the new champ still seeming unbeatable.

It's not 1990 anymore. Japanese crowds aren't going to riot because Vader beats up Inoki after a run-in. Dragon Gate is the #2 company in the country. Japanese wrestling fans have been indoctrinated into the HIGHEST of wrestling hijinks for about 20 years now. The Bullet Club is basically every heel Dragon Gate stable ever.

See Bullet Club just have go away heat with me, it comes off as a cheap copy and they legit ruin matches. I go back to what Meltzer says about Miz, it's clear he's acting at being a wrestler, I feel the same about the Bullet Club, just do not come across as natural to me. I know we won't get riots anymore, which is a shame , but world title matches should be clean, not (more) cheap US knock offs. I hate Dragon Gate also so I can't speak to that but isn't a large part of their fanbase female and newer type wrestling fans? I don't care what they do with their strap but I think the NJPW fanbase expects something different.

Like going by the crowd reactions tonight, there was no heel heat for the finish, AJ got silence when in control, NWA title wasn't over etc. The huge reactions were for Ishii and Nagata/Shibata slapping the shyt outta each other, that, to me, is puro 101 :yeshrug: As I say though AJ could catch on, sell out arenas etc but I have no interest in a Devitt rehash, this time with the world strap.

Awwwww Is there some wittle smart marks that don't like the way Brother AJ won the IWGP Heavy weight title.. Awwww I'm sowwy wittle #babys

I take it back, this guy is a legit badass :comeon:

From another forum

I am currently living in Japan and go to NJPW on a regular basis. Most of my Japanese friends don't know who AJ Styles is and they were pretty shocked he beat Okada. They have only heard his name. I will be going to the Yokohama show and my group of wrestling friends are not too excited about this main event. However, I have been telling them more about AJ styles and how I think the rematch will be good. They all hate the Bullet Club and its not true heel heat but more like X-Pac heat. The thought of a Bullet Club member being champ does not make them want to go to the show.

:heh:

Im actually curious. What could fix Bullet Club for you to make it better?

I never liked the gimmick, it's always been a corny rip off to me, but if it was lower down the card I really wouldn't make a big deal about it. I'd skip their stuff and keep it moving, I just really dislike them being all over title matches. I don't know what I'd do to improve them, they don't come across as natural to me and I usually cringe at their bad boy act, so I'd just kill the group to be honest. I mean ok if this is a one off finish, fine (I still hate it but whatever) but if they keep on incorporating stuff like this into big matches, then it just kills a big part of why people like the product.

Here's the title match though

Silence after the finish :yeshrug:
