The top half of the Hiroshima show was good. Nothing noteworthy on the first half though, outside of Tenzan getting split open pretty badly in his match with Tarver.

Osaka was overall the best show in a while, with only the Gracie's match being outright bad.

Naito and Ishii had a really good match, botches and all. It genuinely felt like the most important thing on the card. The near-falls maybe bordered on overkill, but as long as the crowd is reacting well I don't necessarily see it as a detriment.

Okada/Goto was better from a mechanical standpoint though, and they did a great job following a match that wasn't easy to follow. Also the ridiculous entrances continue:

Not a chance. It was good but as I said in my earlier post, it was way to sloppy at times and it didn't really hit all cylinders until the final stretch (which was great). I was more invested in the Goto match to be honest.

Were did you get that feedback breh? wrestlingforum?

Strong Style Spirit, if I remember correctly. But the report was relaying opinions from somewhere else from the way it was worded, so :yeshrug:.

Okada vs. Ibushi is headlining March 6th at Korakuen. I'm confident they'll outdo the match they had last summer in DDT.

Lineup for the first round of the New Japan Cup:

NJPW, 3/15/14 (Samurai! TV)
Tokyo Korakuen Hall

1. New Japan Cup – Round 1: Yujiro Takahashi vs. Shelton Benjamin
2. New Japan Cup – Round 1: Toru Yano vs. Minoru Suzuki
3. New Japan Cup – Round 1: Katsuyori Shibata vs. Karl Anderson
4. New Japan Cup – Round 1: Hirooki Goto vs. Doc Gallows
5. Special 6 Man Tag Match: Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kota Ibushi & El Desperado vs. Kazuchika Okada, Jado & Gedo
6. New Japan Cup – Round 1: Lance Archer vs. Prince Devitt
7. New Japan Cup – Round 1: Togi Makabe vs. Bad Luck Fale
8. New Japan Cup – Round 1: Tetsuya Naito vs. Tomohiro Ishii
9. New Japan Cup – Round 1: Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Davey Boy Smith Jr.

Based on what went down at The New Beginning shows, it seems like Shibata will win this.

Okada/Ibushi in a red hot Korakuen es smart booking.

Yeah, Shibata looks like the only viable option at the moment. It's either him or Ishii but they already had the angle between Shibata and Okada so it's probably a lock he wins.

The G-1 will be interesting. If Okada is still the champ, by the time August comes he'd wrestled pretty much every legit heavyweight in the company. Unless they get Punk (very long shot), the only option I see for the moment is giving the G-1 to Nakamura and then have him beat Okada in September.

Gotcha. I was asking because I saw people on wrestlingforum going apeshyt for the match and they had me like :what:

Ill watch New Beginnings later, but do you think its possible that Goto wins a fourth cup beating Shibata in the finals and Shibata wins the G1?

Ishii/Naito was the best match of that show brehs. Okada/Goto is pretty whelming until the end.

Naito/Ishii isn't actually overblown at all. The Stardust Press got protected, and Ishii didn't even break out the screwdriver for the W. The crazy thing about that match is that they actually left shyt on the table. The main just had no chance of stacking up to that. Naito and Ishii are perfect for each other.

As for the world title situation, I think Shibata wins the NJC, beats Okada for the belt, Goto beats Shibata, Okada beats Goto, Naka wins the G1, and in the dome it's Okada/Naka in the main.

It's possible but I hope they don't do it. Goto shouldn't lose another title match so soon, he already is New Japan's choker in IWGP title matches, and he shouldn't win the belt either imo.

I just didn't find the first 3/4 of the match compelling at all breh. I didn't buy the strikes exchanges until they went full retard with the headbutts in the finishing stretch. I can't buy Naito not only going toe to toe with someone like Ishii when it comes to strikes - not just because of his gimmick, but his elbows don't look as they should for him to be at that level striking wise - but winning most of those exchanges? They kinda lost me there. And Naito was very sloppy at times, don't know if his knee injury was legit, but it certainly didn't help the match for me.

And I'ma big Naito believer, and an Ishii stan since 09' so it's not like I went into the match expecting to be disappointed or predisposed to not liking it the match. I hope this feuds helps Naito find his groove again and helps my man Ishii keep establishing as a top guy in the company.

They did get their shyt together for the end though, they had the crowd in the palm of their hands and had the right finish. As you said, they left a lot on the table for the eventual rematch and that's always good.

As for the world title situation, I think Shibata wins the NJC, beats Okada for the belt, Goto beats Shibata, Okada beats Goto, Naka wins the G1, and in the dome it's Okada/Naka in the main.

That could work as long as you don't make Shibata's and Goto's reigns too short. There's no point in doing that to them.

Shibata taking the title from Okada would be ideal, though I'm wondering if he would actually have the good faith of the office to be in consideration for a run.

If he does have a run itll either be a short trial run or a month to month wait-and-see kind of thing. I wonder what his dome entrance will wind up looking like :pachaha:
