Anniversary of the GOAT match :to:

Always liked this little bit Dean Rasmussen wrote about this match in one of the Death Valley Driver Video reviews

This issue is actually a pretty good read, been a while since I checked it out but I whenever I do I usually find some match I need to check out http://www.deathvalleydriver.com/dvdvr/dvdvr100.html

This is still my favourite match of all time :blessed:

:gladbron: at all of the AJPW stuff on that YouTube account, I've never seen any of the other Misawa/Kawada matches besides this one. I'm about to eat :blessed:

Only thing I can think is that BoSJ is pretty low key this year so people aren't really in a hurry to up it. The last couple of shows of the tour are aired live on the network and are full shows with commentary etc so I think they might get up quicker.

Gotta pay respect to that match. I watch it at least once a year and it never ceases to be amazing :wow:

When the crowd reacts to Misawa attacking Kawada's leg I alwats go :banderas: such deep storytelling being appreciated by 16,000 people :wow:

An interesting what if, given the value of hindsight. Hiroshi Tanahashi did an interview on Samurai TV on 6/2 and said that in 2007, Gedo had an offer from WWE. He said that they wanted him to play a stereotypical sneaky Japanese character from the 70s so he decided to stay with New Japan, where his booking turned the company around.

:whew:

There is some interesting politics going on right now. New Japan wasn't happy that ROH sent Moose & ACH to the AAA tag team tournament because they are loyal to CMLL as business partners and want a CMLL/New Japan/ROH alliance. That's the reason ROH never pushed that they were sending a team to Mexico. But what is weird is that NOAH, which is owned by New Japan, also sent Taiji Ishimori & Atsushi Kotoge (Yoshihiro Takayama, the third guy, is an independent) and referee Nishinaga to AAA. But New Japan thus far has not booked either Alberto El Patron or Rey Mysterio Jr., because they are AAA talent, even though Mysterio Jr. would be a good big show attraction and Alberto would at least be something different for a big show as well.

Something the company may have to consider is multi-year deals. When Finn Balor did an interview with Jericho talking about leaving, one of the things he noted was New Japan not giving him a long-term contract. It's been tradition in Japan because the wrestling business has its ups and downs out of nowhere, that New Japan always signed everyone for one year. But that dates back to a period when the mentality was the foreigners would come and go and were replaceable and the natives weren't going anywhere because of the loyalty to the company that was such a huge part of Japanese culture. But times have changed, in the sense WWE is going to be after anyone who is really good.

Crowds continue to be down this entire tour, between the non-turn away crowds for both Korakuen Hall shows and only one true sellout show this week, and with all shows in small buildings but one.

There are two live shows this week on New Japan World. The 6/5 Korakuen Hall show, which will determine who goes into the Super Junior finals, airs at 5:30 a.m. Eastern and 2:30 a.m. Pacific with Liger vs. Cavernario, Taguchi vs. Owens, Komatsu vs. Baretta, Gedo vs. O'Reilly, Tiger Mask vs. Finlay, Dorada vs. Romero, Fish vs. Jackson and a main event of Tanahashi & Goto & Makabe & Shibata & Honma vs. Nakamura & Ishii & Yano & Sakuraba & Yoshi-Hashi. The finals are 6/7 at the second Yoyogi Gym in Tokyo. The card won't be announced until after 6/5, but it's a 4 a.m. Eastern start.

As there's no new BoSJ upped yet here's an interesting match from a past tournament, Balor/Neville

Hope Minoru Suzuki will be back for the G1. For what I've read, his stable being in NOAH isn't helping them that much anyway.
