Yes, the Japan army committed atrocities and deserved to be put down.

What does that have to do with the nuking of cities of no significance to the war?

Killing civilians was and is a war crime.

No need to go out of your way to justify it. Both Nanking and Hiroshima were indefensible.
Nuking the Japanese was and will always be the worst option we could've taken as a country.

Absolutely agree that it was a war crime. My point is that even with the two bombs, our war crimes pale in comparison to what Imperial Japan was doing across the region.

My question to you is- what would you have suggested at the time? They made it clear that they would not surrender, and that they would continue torturing other Asians, while also seeking further attacks on US soil.

We can argue many things on this subject, but one thing is irrefutable- those bombs effectively ended WW2, and saved the lives of up to 10mm people

Square biz. Yes, Japan was demonic back in the day, but nobody deserves the hell they all went through involving that atomic bomb. Yes, it was the supposed to be a way to dead the imperial forces and put an end to the war, but reality hits:

Imagine you being that random family, not even bothered by the situation involving war. You hear about it, but you hope that it ends and peace begins. Out of nowhere you hear sirens and a bunch of people huddle up to the nearest shelter. But it's too late.

The explosion occurs and you instantly realize that you have no time to say goodbye to friends and your own family. Each human being is evaporated or succumbing to the radiation and destruction. Thousands of lives are up in the smoke clouds of malice.

Nobody deserves that sort of hell, regardless of the sins of the father.

but like.... that's the truth

can you explain your perspective on imperial japan?
Most scholars have pretty much come out and refuted this. Mind you, not everything you're taught in schools is even remotely accurate. Children in florida will be taught that slavery was a good thing... You gonna support that as well?

"Today, nearly 80 years later, many US government officials, journalists, and educators still claim that Washington had no choice but to nuke Japan, to force it to surrender and thus end World War Two. Some argue that this horrifying atrocity was in fact a noble act, that it saved even more lives that would have been lost in subsequent fighting.

This narrative, although widespread, is utterly false.

US government documents have admitted that Japan was already on the verge of surrendering in 1945, before the nuclear strikes. It was simply not necessary to use the atomic bomb."

That article has excepts from US documents stating that there was most likely no need to nuke them

I read the linked documents....

alot of "could" "would" and "in all probability"

during the greatest war the country has ever been in... the nuclear bombs removed any doubt or "chance" from the equation...

rolling the dice could have gone either way... especially if you read the whole page in the linked article...

3 members of the Japanese supreme war council were prepared for unconditional surrender...

3 other members of the council did not unanimously agree...

meanwhile, during this exact time US service members and Japanese military were engaging with large losses on both sides

shyt, there was even an internal assassination plot when it was clear the Emporer was about to surrender AFTER the bombs were dropped...

the report you referenced is HIGHLY dependent on statements from Japanese political members and hindsight...

both of which we didnt have before the war ended
