Nah not really, but im fairly familiar with that stretch of 84. Thats gonna be awful. Who keeps okaying these stupid moves? That New Britain-Hartford bus thing is dumb as hell too..started in 2012 , will finish in 2015 if lucky, and cost at least half a billy. :what:

it's just legitimized money laundering bro... that's why it makes no sense from a public policy perspective

Anybody ever been on a Maglev train?

:whew:

I've said for years the only thing China really has on the US is transportation, at least trains and taxis.

Of course, it's easy to lay tracks when you have slave labor.

:ld:

Amtrak is a true piece of shyt. How you gonna charge me more to ride on a train versus plane and take 6 times the amount of time?

for one thing, the LIE expansion into grand central is a HUGE project for that 8 billion. New york construction costs are WAY higher than elsewhere in teh country and its to connect to an already established system. . im going to be working in their designing it soon, this is interesting project.

i dont really get the negativity in this article or the posts, im not following how other unrelated and different projects are proof that it cant be built for 8 billion, or why its a big deal if the japanese want to lend the money, they are just using the line as a model so that they can sell more trains to other countries and cities, the japanese logic is explained in the original article

overall i think its an excellent idea and a win win
they quoted that east side access job at 8.7B in NYC wit union HIGh PRICED labor and connecting to an already established system. Saying because this cost 8B and east side access cost 8.7 tells me hey it could be possible. i work for a transit engineering company, its a possibility

Are you guys saying this is stupid because of the high cost (understandable) or because you believe investing in public transportation/infrastructure isn't worth it?

In the Silver Lining
Japan just preparing their move to America because their island is done.

We have a winner .....UNFORTUNATELY :snoop:, apparently they are deserting to Thailand too...... then again what they are saying is on its way .. :snoop: ...nevermind ....... lets talk Maglev.... yes very awesome, I've been on the Maglev email list that talks about rail projects for like 7 years .... flooding my email...anyway, it could work ..... just have to figure out if you want it above ground or underground or both, b/se of the right of way ....... DC to NY in like an hour will leave folks like :dwillhuh:

Today, on the radio they mentioned that Texas is getting more serious about a rail line between Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston that would go 200 mph and get people between both places in 90 minutes...... if they are smart, they would hold off on the old tech and go ahead get that maglev popping in Texas and other places like the Northeast corridor will be mad salty ..... and that's good for everybody, cause that competition will mean maglev will predominate versus regular traditional steel rail with regards to cross country rail..

Any rail is good though.... so whatever .. :yeshrug:

Yes, I think construction union laws (at least in CT) are extreme. Of course I'm ok with an 8 hour work day, but a mandatory half hour coffee break after you get into work is bizarre. Also, a mandatory hour long lunch. I mean, construction workers typically bring a cooler, eat a quick lunch, have a smoke and then, on union jobs, sit around and bullshyt waiting for the hour to end until they get back to it.

Allowing for a coffee break, and an hour lunch is even rational..but making it mandatory? Dudes thats didn't want coffee literally would just take off their helmet and wait out the 30 minutes like :beli:, and the other dudes would give them the :leostare: like they were some scabs just because they didnt want to down a cup of coffee in 90 degree heat. It was like the twilight zone.

I find it extreme :manny:
I find it quite weird that anybody would complain about less work hours and more break hours.

The east coast should def implement it first. Our country is so backwards just imagine if they even sliced the military budget for two to three years. I believe they can create this in the west coast too.

Yup the Japanese are coming I wonder how that process will work however.

Americans are brainwashed into it. Same reason they won't ask what their co-workers are making or some are afraid to take PTO they have earned.

It's really sad. Meanwhile the other civilized and modern countries in the world are actually enjoying their younger years, getting paid well and being able to relax. Other countries actually get paid time off to spend with their new children. Get to take real vacations and see the world.

More because of the high cost, but it depends on the specific instance. The Baltimore-DC thing is more worth it than the CT stuff that was being discussed. If you know CT highways, 84 usually isnt that bad..and yeah there can be traffic in the Waterbury area but expanding the highway and taking 3-4 years may cause more headaches than it solves (in regards to what Shogun said). Even worse is the idea that I brought up, which is now the CTfasttrack (or whatever) project..its going to cost like 584m and doesnt really do anything. It connects some towns and cities (depending on how you classify New Britain and West Hartford), that are no more than 30 minutes away from each other anyway. It is speculative about how many people will even use it, and I just dont think it is generally worth it.

I think investing in public transportation and infrastructure is certainly worth it, but I think state and local governments are way too liberal in spending for it. There are other things that CT could spend 584m on and have it result in more of a utilitarian outcome, and Im assuming that other states, cities and towns have somewhat similar circumstances where the spending is generally unwarranted.

Id rather see investment in infrastructure be primarily focused on energy conservation and minimizing pollution.

Then you must also find it quite weird that some people like their work, and take pride in doing it well.

You really think Scandanavia is some sort of Utopia huh? Am I wrong in saying one the big reasons they can push those policies is because if their low population and high income from oil exports?

The fact that you went to Scandinavia and not Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, UK, France and others is very telling.

The American worker is his own worst enemy. We are laughed at.
