Not really. There's a large disconnect between being a Teller and other jobs at the branch. Most people who work for the banks never spent a day as a Teller.

Not true in the past. I don't know about new hires.
I've worked in banks a long time, most retail management started as tellers.

It may be true that most other employees were never tellers, but if you work long-term as a teller and show potential you can definitely move up.
