Her cultural "appropriation" in this instance is not going to cost us any money.

If she was sporting an American flag swimsuit top, I wouldn't be offended. If the Jamaicans are cool, let her cook. As for the Bantu knots......not sure that belongs to any particular group. "Bantu" is a pretty broad term covering basically anyone of sub-Saharan African descent.

Thread shouldn't be this long. I literally did not see anyone accuse her of appropriation especially given her past history of supporting black artists and showing love to black cultures. The only thing I saw was jokes about her appearance and attire.

Jamaican culture is strong. And Adele clowning it will not reduce it.
It will bring more light. That's the difference between being proud and strong and being defensive.

Billions people advertise black American culture: why be defensive?
Blue, Soul, Jazz, Hip Hop are Black America legacy to the world. Why be defensive, you won already.

I think people get defensive because AA culture is American culture but whites (in America) have had a long history of stealing the culture and monetizing it....taking something black, putting a white face on it and then getting paid because whites want the brown liquor in vodka bottle instead of a Henny bottle.

Nigerian (and all the different cultures within Nigeria) and Jamaican culture was developed independent of whiteness. It's a finished product that whites can sample as they choose. White Europeans have their own culture(s) so they aren't as inclined to steal it. Just appreciate it. The best parts of American culture are AA and that grew up conjoined with whiteness.

Hell country music is just a mix of Scottish/Irish folk singing with west African singing/storytelling etc.

Having said all that, as an AA, I have no desire to police other cultures. Jamaicans, Nigerians etc., can decide what they're cool with and what they won't accept.

Social Media isn't an accurate portrayal of common people though. It's the loudest people in a room yelling with a full blown agenda. I'm Black, been around mostly Black people my whole life, and having issues with Africans, or Jamaicans, Haitians, etc., has never been a thing. Maybe some jokes here and there, but never no real animosity from our side. Have received nothing but love and hospitality from other peoples.

Everybody is going to have different experiences. It really depends on where you live. I'm not cracking jokes about Jamaicans, I'm kicking the real from what I've experienced in South, FL.
