Embiid was the #1 player going into that draft until the foot issues came up. That was always the right pick
Yes, but Embiid was also hurt and that's why Hinkie(like the bucks/wolves) wouldn't have taken him otherwise.
Porzingis should have been the pick once LA took Russell. You don't draft a guy on the premise of trading him a year later.
Porzingis refused to work out for them. I'm sorry, but it's way too risky to draft someone that's a euro and refuses to work out for you. People get mad enough when teams draft euros that bust, but if it was one that never worked out for them then Hinkie would have never heard the end of it.
The other options were Mudiay(which probably reminded Hinkie far too much of MCW, which is fair) and Mario, who is a project. Hinkie just went with BPA as the others weren't nearly as enticing.
Hinkie never hit on any mid-late picks either. Mitch gets shyt on by Lakers fans, but he found Clarkson and Nance later in the draft, plus Zubac looks promising as well. Hinkie never found anyone and Philly has had a ton of mid-late picks the past few years. The closest was K.J. McDaniels and he traded him away half way through his first season.
This is fair. I thought it was stupid as fukk of them to draft like 5 centers after Okafor too in 2015. Just a bunch of wasted picks. It's why hording 2nd round picks, in my opinion, is stupid as you'll never have enough room for them.
