If you do the research, the story doesn't add up:
1) Puff started out as an intern at Uptown
2) He was promoted to Vice President of promotions in 1991
3) He produced one song with Tony Dofat for Christopher Williams, which appeared on Williams' album released in December of 1992
4) In mid- 1993, Puff was fired from Uptown
He wasn't an executive producer or A&R for Christopher Williams and given that Puff was a VP Promotions, it wouldn't make sense that he would be discussing demo deals or have his own building.
Jaguar Wright's account, as stated in the article, is second hand. And when you look further, Wright and Mary J. Blige were once lable mates. The label wanted Mary on the song below, but ultimately decided on Jaguar's version:
