Of course the ATL
I don’t agree but I don’t have any problem with LL of all people saying who should be on a Mt Rushmore for Def Jam. Of course it’s gonna be old school artists, LL was the first artist signed to Def Jam

If anyone deserves to have their opinion on Def jam it's LLfukkin Cool J.

But nevertheless, the point L was making, the flowers deserves to go to those that laid the foundation.

Same issue Snoop had with Pac
When people started making it as if Pac was DTR

Btw Redman's contribution ...in keeping the building up .....is underrated
I hear this often, what years were this?

fukk Snoop. Before Pac that nikka was the sole superstar on that shyt. Would he have preferred it stay that way? Snoop's man's and Dr Dre stepbrother didn't even get a Death Row look after all the help he provided over there. The nikka actually had to go to Def Jam and save that fukkin label. That person is Warren G.

The "Greatest Ever" lists should be generationally ranked, imho. Michael Jordan said the same about basketball's Greatest Ever rankings, I think the same applies to hip hop.

It feels weird saying PE or the Beastie Boys are "greater" or ranked higher than Jay-z but there are so many things you have to take into account that you're not...like the evolution and forward advancement of the art and how these newer guys benefitted from that while these other luminary types were in an era where there were less references and sources and blueprints laid for them so they kinda had to wing it and create greatness off the cuff and lay the blueprint for posterity to springboard off of...type shh!t.

It's ill when you start unpacking it...rank that shh!t by generation man, it's fairer imo.

Nas is the undisputed GOAT but like i said before, he didn’t do enough at Def Jam to be on the label’s Mount Rushmore.

Four Number 1 albums in a row is nothing to sneeze at but DMX literally SAVED the label. LL literally BUILT the label and Jay-Z himself became the biggest superstar during the label’s commercial peak.

didn’t watch the video but there’s no reason why Nas should be on there. The others have a case but he seemed to be repping bus generation.

I hear you. My thoughts were to add Redman because he helped build it as well.

However LL, PE, Beasties and Slick Rick sounds right.

What if...

What if Jay Z continued to lead Def Jam and focus on building emcees and hip hop culture through Def Jam?

Instead of not dropping albums more often?

Hmmmmmmmm

It's LL's list. Of course he's gonna list himself and his peers. But DMX deserves some more respect given what he did for the label.

Also...nobody would put Nas or Jadakiss in a conversation for best albums on Def Jam.
