Jacksonville has always been “demonic” as it’s historically an old south (aka violently racist/Klan) city. It was the murder capital of the US in 1930 something when it was all white people there.
They still have an antiquated racist approach to crime that’s all about more police and jails. They don’t have anything in the way of investment towards community- building and crime prevention early on that other Florida metros with less crime have.
Here’s a good article on it.
With High Murder Rate, Jacksonville to Vote for Change or Status Quo in Mayoral Election - Juvenile Justice Information Exchange
Regarding it being the Chicago of the south, as far as the gang and rap shyt goes, it’s a pretty fair comparison. Jax doesn’t have anywhere near as many people as Chicago but it’s big as fukk (largest city land-wise in the US) and spread out. There isn’t one or two or three hoods in Jacksonville. There’s pockets everywhere so there’s a lot of sets. Also the city is lenient when it comes to letting people choose schools, so it’s kinda like everyone knows each other.
The current young generation here just love Chief Keef and that Chicago shyt. Jdot Breezy talking about it here.
