This feels like a mixtape to me....not gonna be enough to get him into being a household name
I thought it was a mixtape. It dropped on a Monday or Tuesday too which made me think it wasn't an album as well.

It's an album. And all Dreamville releases dropped on a Monday. (I think KOD dropped on a Tuesdays though)

Sounds like TPAB Kendrick

At first I read this and thought you meant this project sounded like TPaB, but then I re-read it.

I don’t wanna get on the wagon of taking the Kendrick comparisons too far, but if anything it sounds like Kendrick’s TPaB rhyme style over DAMN. era/style production.

In what way aside from his voice and both uses their flow as a jazz instrument. Kendrick isn't heavy on wordplay and punchlines nor does he really sing. J.I.D isn't heavy on deep concepts and both their backgrounds are rather different. The main influences is with Lil Wayne and it should be stated that Lil Wayne been the most influential rapper of this past decade from Kendrick on down to your typical mumble rapper.

The voice stuff doesn’t sound similar by coincidence is what I meant. it sounds like he’s downright trying to sound like him.

Never even heard of him until this so I’m no expert on his sound, just going off of what I heard on this.
Understood. I'm not sure how far his stuff goes back but I only have heard his first album, The Never Story, which is better than this imo and two mixtapes-- Para Tu and Route of All Evil.

You must of not heard him talk. Or heard his old sound cloud stuff. J.I.D been like this before Kendrick blew. The influence and flow and voice is more from Lil Wayne to whom he himself stated as why he wanted to rap.

Dude has seriois talent.

Just kill that Kendrick frlow

Drake did the same when he came out...Was sounding like Ye all over So Far Gone

I guess its a gimmick

I didn’t notice that drake/kanye thing until recently. He was really over pronouncing all of his words like Kanye. The auto tune was kanye too.
