Don't get me wrong, I wasn't expecting the dude to be the next big thing. But his mixtapes had tracks and when I heard he produced his own shyt, I was like :gladbron:... Thinking he was gonna up his game for the album.

Instead, he went and released that beer coaster (Sideline Story). SMFH. And now he just fell off the map..

J. Cole been out for just a few years and already looking :flabbynsick: to me

I agree with a lot of what you said, because I was expecting so much more.

The positive for Cole is he has a fanbase, his name is out there though. And he's still better than the likes of Big Sean, Wiz Khalifa etc.

The pressure on him for his next album is going to be huge though. He has the find the right beats, and for that to happen, he has to step away from the production.

Cole got mad lyricism and flow and fire in his voice tho breh.

He is not as nice as some people think he is though.

But still he is better than a lot of nikkas who yall like to hype

He wouldn't be in my top 5 rappers of today though not even close

Just like KRIT, he didnt bring anything new to the album that I hadn't heard on the mixtapes and most of his tracks that were supposed to commercially appealing sounded forced.

You could tell when he was in his comfort zone(Dollar and a Dream III, Lost Ones) and when he wasn't( Mr Nice Watch, Work Out).

CW isnt a bad release, it just wasn't that good. 6-7/10. Friday Night Lights was better imo.

I've heard some hot verses from him, but I've never been impressed with his production. Technically he's fine, but his ear for samples needs work (other than that one Erykah Badu sample :ooh:)

Cole is easily better than Drake, I don't even get where dudes get the Drake comparisons from.
J. Cole's production (which is mostly self produced...) doesn't sound sh1t like 40's (which is also good..).
I agree that his album has a tough time messing with his mixtape but when I last listened to it, without playing any of his other material before hand it stands pretty damn well on it's own.

Another thing I think people forget is it has a lot of older songs, some of the stuff on that album was 4 to 5 years old by the time it hit retail and he'd clearly progressed by FNL, showing the skill gap rapping and production wise since then.

Album was bland and boring. Need to update his production too its trash :gag:. Go holla at Just Blaze and some other producers. Production is lifeless. As of right now Sean is killing him.
