I think the Aubrey & Kendrick beef was authentic from over a decade ago. The label was trying to hold them back from beefing cause Aubrey was their cash cow. When he tried to renegotiate, they let Kendrick go loose.

Aubrey also saw an opportunity to try to turn to friends against each other but Cole saw that it was fake and inauthentic so he bowed out. I don't blame him.

They were definitely friends at one point, but as their careers progressed and they started having families, Kendrick became more distant. Also, Cole was closer to Drake and their friendship either stayed the same or strengthened over time. Kendrick respects and likes Cole, but he's not going to come to Cole's house for dinner and hang out in the studio.

Cole still wants to be friends with Drake, and Kendrick wants nothing to do with that, so he'll continue to keep his distance.
