bytch how am I stupid when getting on a bus and out of sun zero temps is better than freezing to death. I don’t know anyone who would consider -1 degrees a comfy environment. Being in a new, warm and unfamiliar city is an easy decision over the prospect of a sad death (like freezing) every day. Not to mention the people who have to deal with carting off these frozen bodies who likely have no ID on them.

Contrary to popular belief, Iceland is actually not very cold, at least relative to its location, due to the warm air it constantly receives from the atlantic ocean which keeps the climate from being sub arctic, rarely does it dip below 18f in the winter same with majority of Eastern European countries (with the exception of russia and Kazakhstan).

Winnipeg is not even the coldest big metropolitan city in the world the likes of Astana (Kazakhstan) Yakutsk (russia) ulaanbatar(Mongolia), Harbin(China) are colder and all have atleast 800 thousand population with the exception of Yakutsk with only 270 thousand people
