There isn't really too much game needed to understand this:

1. They loose interest because someone better/more interesting came along
2. Woman can never admit doing something wrong so they have to spin it into your fault
3. When they reappear the other dude didn't work out (yet) and they are trying to keep you around as a back up option.

This is why you immediately have to bush a woman if she starts acting funny. It's much better for your piece of mind and their ego really can't handle it when they try to return acting like nothing happened and you don't care.
