Stinks what's happening to Jimmy's health but deep down everyone should've seen it coming even before the injury actually happened, hell i think a couple of you guys even hinted on it early in the season and it was my own 'de ja vu' concern whenever i caught one of yalls games.
i.e. if Jimmy kept on playin 35-40 mins a night in which he's expoding fearlessly (but recklessly) to the rim every possession into waiting defenders, has to catch at least two ignorantly thrown alley-oops by Gasol per half requiring him to jump over and through multiple defenders with a crash landing every time, plus D'ing up the other team's best player... so basically running on fumes every night.. no way was that not going to end in disaster. He's young but attrition was going to be the end of him, like it was with Rose and Noah (and hence the de ja vu). And now him coming back even tho things may not even be right and surgery pending, also seems like a familiar narrative.
Part of that is Jimmy's own stubbornness in playin the isolation game (taking it on his own) plus other other guys being injured and him wanting to step up, but likely also goes back to the system-less offense
