Realistically, there was no reason for Disney not to release the movie. Primarily because FOX had already spent the money on producing the film. That money was already gone. So you have to look at it from a Disney perspective of marketing dollars versus revenue made at the box office, home video, ppv and other ancillary licensing, merchandise, etc...; Disney will make money on the film, while FOX [if they still were owned by NewsCorp] under their financials for amortization would not have.

Movies need to make back double their budget to break even. They barely made over the actual budget back so it was a complete waste and trashed the brand.
The billion dollar precedent set for box office returns fukked the movie industry. The Amazing Spider Man 2 made over 700 mil at the box office but is considered a flop :mjtf: The sustainability of the current industry doesn't look good.

That was only called a flop for “agenda” purposes.

When other movies later got those numbers all of a sudden “they made profit, it’s not a flop”

But either way, the industry is fine nothing worth panicking over

Thousands of movies get made every year and everyone eating

:mjlol:at "I was right". Damn near this entire board said the same thing. It was common sense.

Fred.
It's not common sense to scrap a movie a studio spent $250 million on before it ever hits theaters and just eat that loss. It would be more common sense to take the chance on it (which they did) because maybe it does something and maybe it doesn't but if you scrap it then it's a $250 million loss guaranteed.
