Dude. This show is made for people who fell asleep in high school.

Do you want a college level breakdown of biochemistry and evolutionary biology? If so, let me know and I'll dust off my text books.

Otherwise, stop asking complex questions to have two sentence answers.

Let me know how deep you want to go here...otherwise, stop wasting our time because your education failed you.

My education hasnt failed me. I didnt major in biology and didnt take any advanced biology courses. Im not even talking trash. I really want to know how the light sensitive cells idea became eyes comes from. Oh well Ill just wait until i run into a science nerd in real life.

And it shouldnt take a biochemistry class to explain what concrete proof scientist have found that removes all doubt that humans developed sight from a mutation that created photo sensitive proteins

uhh.....yeah it might take a biochem class because I posted videos and lectures and you skipped over those. I've got neuroscience under my belt so tell me where the needs to go, for YOUR sake.

1. there are photon sensitive cells that exist as single cellular organs (look at cyanobacteria)
2. some of these photon sensitive cells initiate metabolic processes that change the membrane potential of cell by altering membrane permeability
3. some of these photon-sensitive cells have been able to localize their effects and effectively (AS A WHOLE) transmit signals to other parts of the body
4. some bacteria can sense environmental conditions and change their behavior. look up chemotaxis

Complicate and refine that process...and voila: the eye.

You know whats also interesting? Its now understood that eyes have developed independently a few times. i.e. the conditions in many niches tend to allow the development of eyes....and environments that DONT, dont tend to create eyes i.e. the naked mole rat.

Now...we can go further than that if you want, or you can keep pretending like just because YOU odn't know something, that therefore it isn't known.

This isn't controversial.

its proven.

its explained.

Thought the episode was great. It is scary in a way because Clair Patterson had to go through great lengths to prove that the petroleum industry lied about the negative effects of their lead additives. We saw the same thing with nictotine. Makes you wonder about Montasano and genetically engineered crops :stepehenausure:

And they got lobbyists and scientists on their payroll :stephenaplz:

Another funny thing was at the end of the episode I was like, "it's eerie how the reduction in lead levels seem to coincide with the reduction in crime levels in the US. I wonder if somebody looked into that":lupe:. I remember someone claiming that Roe vs Wade and abortions reducing unwanted pregnancies was a factor, but that's anecdotal. This would be based on science. Sure enough:

Reductions in the average blood lead level is believed to have been a major cause for falling violent crime rates in the United States[29] and South Africa.[30] Economist Jessica Wolpaw Reyes of Amherst Collegefound that declining exposure to lead is responsible for up to a 56% decline in crime from 1992 to 2002. Including other factors that are believed to have increased crime rates over that period Reyes found that this led to an actual decline of 34% over that period.[31]

A statistically significant correlation has been found between the usage rate of leaded gasoline and violent crime: taking into account a 22-year time lag, the violent crime curve virtually tracks the lead exposure curve.[27][32] After the ban on TEL, blood lead levels in US children dramatically decreased.[27]

:ohhh:

shytting on capitalism

And the other construct of man, religion. Just found a great quote to illustrate that point.

The Bible teaches us how to get to heaven; it is not a treatise on how the heavens move.

Which version? Old Testament? New Testament? King James Version? Do you include the gospel of judas and the Dead Sea scrolls? Gnostic gospels? How deep in the rabbit hole you going breh? You celebrating Christ's resurrection with magic bunnies that lay eggs? You celebrating his birthdays with shamans that ride on magic deer? You judging the earths age based on how many people are begat? Is there a gospel of quantum mechanics? Enlighten me breh, I'm all ears.
