It’s gotta be a sick feeling to know you traded all those picks and SGA for Paul George

Until OKC makes/wins the Finals the jury is still out on this being a “win” for either side. The Clippers won’t, so it’s all on OKC now. Also, and I’ve said this before multiple times, players of Kawhi’s caliber aren’t waiting around for an SGA to turn into something, that’d be like David Griffin saying “Well Bron we can’t trade Andrew Wiggins because he’s the number one pick and he’s got so much potential, why would we bring in Kevin Love who’s never won anything?”

OKC won when they didnt go to complete no mans land. The Clips are the ones that needed to win to make this worth it.

It was worth it the minute they did it because it legitimately launched a down trodden organization into championship conversation and nobody foresaw SGA becoming half the player he has no matter what anyone says. When you don’t have winning pedigree sometimes you have to take chances to go where you want to go

Anybody who says they thought SGA would turn into an MVP caliber player is a goddamn lie :dead:

Which is why this convo is dumb

Clippers should've been more aggressive trying to recruit PG via free agency in 2018. OKC lost in the 1st run and the writing was on the wall that they weren't going to be contenders.

I've literally heard this trade being called the "Herschel Walker trade" for the NBA. I'm just using the criteria people already set up, I don't give a damn if either team wins a chip either way, BUT you need tangible results, you can't just live off "well we made the greatest trade in NBA history!!!". Especially when we have examples of crucial pieces that got traded to a team that put them over the top to win a championship.

By that token, the Harden trade isn’t one of the worst trades ever?

That one is yes, but that's two different circumstances. OKC had already made a Finals with Harden.
That’s fair. I think you judge a trade based on the talent acquired, since winning it all usually comes down to luck at the EOD unless you’re overwhelmingly more talented/coached than the field (and even then you gotta be healthy), but I can’t say you’re inconsistent in your argument

And I can understand that side too, I'm not even the type of guy that's on that "championship or bust" type of mentality, due to the different variables in winning as you said. And the talent level on OKC is way above the Clippers so yeah they won in that aspect, but I would like to see them go a bit further in the playoffs, and I think they'll get to the Finals this year so we'll see.

That's a hindsight take.

Paul George was 3rd in MVP voting that year, averaged 29 and was first team All Defense.

Nobody saw SGA becoming what he is now.

We given nikkas points for hype...that they didnt live up to now? All the while saying OKC gotta make a Finals? OKC wasnt exactly the Lakers in terms of pedigree and the main reason for any pedigree they had bolted years prior. The Clippers won just as many playoff games as the Thunder the year prior...and they played the Warriors. They had 2 max spots to add to that team. OKC had just lost in the first rd with Russ and PG again and had no prospects for upgrading that team. To flip that into an MVP candidate and a team overflowing with young talent is a win by itself. And now they going for their 2nd straight 1 seed in the west. Nobody had OKC being anywhere near where they are now before or after the trade so to try to put Finals or chip or bust expectations on them is revisionist and disingenuous.
