The brain is a muscle. Exercising it will only make it stronger. I need to learn of tactics in strengthening my memory and susceptibility to learning.

EDIT: Although im sure there are tons of studies out there. Imagine the average Joe studying their whole life in a field and still never producing anything of the likes of the greatest minds this world has seen.
How do I go about doing this? Do I simply start filling my brain with random Wikipedia articles? Start reading the encyclopedia? I mean how do I become someone that is considered intelligent? How do I become a more logical and critical thinker? Please help.
