Its crazy how nikkas like Vince, Soul, Q, and Freddie Gibbs will drop some of the best albums in rap but barely sell anything

It's usually related to charisma, at the end of the day some of the greatest artist just don't have the star quality

NAH ITS USUALLY RELATED
TO LABEL PUSH...

GUYS LIKE KENDRICK AND COLE
HAD ZERO CHARISMA AT THE START
OF THEIR CAREERS BUT DEVELOPED IT.

SAME FOR KANYE

Schoolboy Q had mainstream success and Gibbs is a whole character. Its not that. It's about corporate push at this point and on top of that they are too old to be viral with young people. So they in that middle spot.

Man at some point it all doesn’t matter and you just have to enjoy what you enjoy cause

1. “And all of em better than Fold too”

That’s your opinion.

2. “I don't know how they do it. All that work to create something with substance and quality but majority would rather hear some bullshyt”

That’s your opinion too.

Freddie was signed to a major. (interscope and Warner) but couldn’t pop off

Vince was signed to a major (Def Jam) (my favorite west coast rapper outside of Blu) but couldn’t pop off really

Soul never had major backing though (was never going to pop off he’s the quintessential underground lyricist)

Q is still signed to interscope and has had a great career. (Has multiple platinum plaques)

Thing is everyone isn’t meant for superstardom. Somebody has to play the minor role and that’s okay. They are all successful in their own right.

They aren't trying to sell records. These are largely independent records, or major label ones that deliberately don't have mainstream songs (Q). These guys are also almost 40 in many cases. It is what it is, I don't think they're complaining. They have real fans and can successfully tour as long as they want.

Exactly

Gibbs has more Charisma/Star Power than Cole n Kendrick combined

Thats why dude has been in movies, tv shows, podcasts.

Dude is a character of Rick Ross magnitude. Lack of mainstream success has nothing to do with that. Cole is still boring as fukk to this day.

Travis Scott all these nikkas got the personality of a dry wall :pachaha:

In the early 90s, you had to be hardcore to sell records.

Late 90s baller or gangsta

2000s Crunk, hood tunes, and not so much "real hip hop"

david-byrne-same-as-it-ever-was.gif

2010s drug raps and THOT tunes.

Now its......ADHD THOT raps, demonic drill, and afrobeats whining tunes.

The game continues to be the game. Want "real hip hop" support and go to the shows.

Don't want "real hip hop", don't buy the albums and let cacs go to the shows :manny:

IMO it's the opposite... They got as far as they could given their charisma level

Music is more marketing than actual ability. Having an image and a sound that sells is more important than being "good" at making music.
That's the thing though. All these dudes got marketable personalities people buy into. Even soul got a lane. But it hasn't translated into music sales for some reason

I'm not saying I'm expecting them to be superstars. Just that you would think they'd at least be going gold. Cause it's always, "Why ain't so and so dropping music? It's been x many years. :why:He done fell off :francis:"

But nikkas is selling like 11-23k per album. It's like you bout have to be ready for your favorite artist to retire and you can't really blame em :francis:

Yeah, they're older but you got ll, cube, dre and snoop dropping so hopefully they will continue as well
