Are we holding him to just being a contributor or living up to the tagline that was bestowed on him as a #2 pick, and fulfilling the gaping hole the Warriors have had at the 5 since this dynasty began? He doesnt have to be David Robinson or Giannis to contribute to the team. We watched Poole look historically bad his rookie season, I’ll leave it at that
In this context, I don't think Poole wasn't even that bad, in that, quite clearly there was something there to work with. He came into the league with a handle and could shoot - which are essentially two of the most important things for his position. Wiseman came into the league not knowing how to do anything as a big man, to go along with having poor hands and BBIQ, in general. If he was 6'9" and had average bounce, folks would start treating him in a more realistic manner, but because of his size and vert, they're far more willing to turn a blind eye to glaring issues and fall into the trap that we tend to do with someone who's 7ft and can jump out of the gym.
The things that Poole was bad at (decision making and defense), he still isn't any good at, he's just maxing out the strengths he had when he first came into the league. The only thing that Wiseman has proven he can do regularly is catch lobs, which needless to say, almost every 7fter can do. He doesn't have that dog in him either, which Poole did/does, even to the point where his overconfidence has been a double-edged sword.
He's two years older than Kuminga (a year old than Moody), and is significantly behind both in development, on top of the fact it'll take a lot longer for a big to develop in this system than it will a wing, so there isn't really a scenario I envision where he'll end up being that guy with nearly everything stacked against him.
