most of the italians in the states are from southern italy, specifically naples and sicily. which are the poorer areas of italy. so i can see them not wanting to identify with italy as a whole, since northern ("rich" and politically connected) italians shytted on them

My dad was fairly new to the country at that time. Knowing my dad I don’t Think he knew about these individual stories but my dad overall knew Italians were racist by simply walking in their neighborhoods.

My dad was fairly new to the country so he wasn’t worried about the area and yes my dad has fought Italians before.
NYC was very dangerous back then so he fought a lot of blacks and Italians overall in Brooklyn.
My dad new how to fight and he is one of those people who has the mindset that you have to fight no matter what because once those Italians get you they aren’t going to Back off no matter how much you plead.
And with the robbers in the hood my dad still fought them because my dad believed once a man takes out a gun on you he will most likely use it so take the bullets fighting.
My dad also ran over muggers with his taxi cab before. But that’s because some muggers don’t think shyt through.
