A bit of an overpay, but I'm with it. A legit 1B with Cole

Ya crying about getting proven playoff performers, well here you go. He shut the water off and got the Braves that chip

And he keeps the ball in the yard. Son is a dog.

He pitched that clinching game 6 after his ankle got stepped on early in the game too. Braves have a big hole to fill in the rotation.

Okay, this is just dumb. My enthusiasm has waned a bit

the only positive is that $27 mil now won't look the same way in 8 years the way shyt is going with salaries.

The biggest negative of this isn't even necessarily directed at Fried (I think this move kinda forces Chisholm to have to go to 2nd because Fried is a ground ball pitcher). The biggest thing is, Rodon should never be higher than 4th in the rotation. The reason why we even had to go after Fried is because Rodon is a sunk cost.

Cole
Fried
Gil
Rodon
Schmidt

dump Cortes and Stroman, sign a long man/quasi 6th starter and focus on the pen

It always does. 3 years after Albert Pujols got $24 million a year for 10 years, Robinson Cano got it too. Does Manny Machado being paid $30 million or Stanton being paid $27 million seem so ridiculous today given what the market is for guys who produce like they did? All the more reason it’s rarely bad to pay the big money to stars in their prime long term.

I love Soto but whoever is leaking this crap to the press and most likely that would be Boras, needs to stop with all these weird reasons why he went to the Mets lol. Everyone understands he went there because Cohen offered the most money, it’s fine and I don’t fault him one bit, the fabricated drama is just corny.

This.

And who knows if that suite thing is even true.

Yeah it’s a little :patrice: because they could’ve gotten him with clauses and opt outs baked in but at least the focus appears to be on rebuilding this thing — which can mostly be done during winter meetings if Cashman is about his business.

Shows everyone else that the vault is open and deals are ready to be made.

Stanton's deal isn't terrible because of AAV. It's bad because of years. Fried at $27 mil when arbitration was at $21 doesn't even look that bad today. Even Walker Buehler on a 1 year make good deal is gonna get $15-16.

the way to avoid this is to NOT trade the Gils and Schmidts of the organization

I’ve always been a big believer in Gil after being at his first start, but if trading him is what’s needed to bring a real difference maker to the lineup, they have to do it. 2022-23 should’ve made it clear that you have to get guys who will get on so teams have to pitch to judge.

From a pure talent perspective, I like Fried. As a pitcher, he tracks with what the Yankees generally look for: low exit velocity, high ground ball, good barrel rate %. He also has the lowest ERA of any starting pitcher since 2020.

My concern is with the length of the contract. 8 years for a guy who's already 30 and isn't exactly the most durable. I generally don't like paying pitchers after 30 as is. And he's going to be pitching for us until 38. If he can give us quality pitching until 34, I'll be satisfied.

Still, I like this a hell of a lot better than throwing 400 million at Jake Arrieta 2.0 (aka Corbin Burnes)

if you're trading for Tucker,

1. Judge better get ready to play 1B because this CF shyt better not happen again.

2. Tucker better have an extension before the press conference. Otherwise you're begging to get kicked in the balls again.
