It may be a dumb question but why should Norv Turner be a hot commodity for OC

you clearly havent watched many niner games in 2006

but if you want pure stats, go and look up frank gore's stats in 2006.
Ill give you a hint before you hit up google/pfr/yahoo/espn, theyre his career best both rushing and receiving

Well maybe he should have worked some of that magic with Ryan Matthews. :manny:

Matthews isn't a third of the player that Gore is. Dude will flash and look great one play--then the very next fumble and break his leg.

Dude really has terrible luck. I wasn't really too familiar with him coming out of college so I was surprised when the chargers traded up to get him. Spiller was the only RB taken ahead of him that draft and Mathews has proven to be better than every RB taken after (I guess some might argue that Ben Tate and Dwyer are better, but I'd say they're all comparable).

I'd be curious to know what @NYC Rebel has to say as he usually has some insight regarding running backs. It's difficult for me to know how bad or good Mathews is because of how much of a mess the offensive line has been. He's too inconsistent and I wouldn't be surprised if when he leaves the Chargers he shows out wherever he ends up.

The chargers offense been top 5 every year with him except this year :aicmon:

He can call plays on Offense like wade Phillips can call plays on defense. They're just not head coach material

Man as a loyal Chargers fan, I'm relieved to see both Norv and AJ gone.

The blame is split evenly. The thing is that AJ isn't the draft talent he thinks he is. Dude was drafting prospects who are considered 6th rounders in the 2nd round because, "he was a second rounder to him" just so he could inflate his ego and be looked at as some scouting genius by the media. Of course he was proven wrong. Some of the Chargers struggles have been due to the fact that he never drafted for depth and gave Norv weak pieces to use.

When it comes to Norv, it was an issue of adjustments. How many times this season have you seen the Chargers going into halftime with a lead, sometimes a substantial one, and then lost the game? That blame goes mainly to Norv. When the pass rush continually gets to Rivers in 2 sec, why continue to call 5-7 steps drop step passes? Rarely were quick slants called when there was consistent pressure. Also the amount of times dude abandoned the run was just awful. I remember the vs the New Orleans Saints Mathews was averaging 9 yards per carry and Norv nearly completely neglected the run in the 4th quarter.

Stats from the past can also be inflated by weak competition. The AFC West division other than the Chargers was weak for many of the years the Chargers were on top, and the teams outside of the division were hardly contenders.

Rant off.

He isnt a head coach, Chargers have gradually gotten worse since he walked through the door....Thats a fact!

OC should be his position from now til he retires
