You're probably right breh. Had a friend I went to school with that was jobless in MI for months after he graduated (this was a few years ago), then he moved to Texas and found a job almost right away, and I think he makes more than me now. :sadcam:

But I guess the whole idea of just quitting my job and moving to another city without a job lined up or steady income is kind of scary, and I tend to be a little risk-averse. But then again I guess sticking around an area w/no jobs isn't doing myself a favor.

You ain't even gotta do all that breh, figure out what city you wanna live in (just make sure the IT market is good), change your address on monster/careerbuilder/dice/etc, and start applying to jobs in that city.

That's how I ended up in Atlanta

I agree video training beats book training everyday.

Watching someone do it will help you remember it quicker than reading a book.

GNS3 is an emulator for those who want to learn Cisco and Juniper.
Grind and learn hard.........there is too much money to be made

Hey guys, I have 1 part of my A+ done. Had this shyt for like a year now and haven't applied for any tech jobs much b/c I want to finish it up first. What types of jobs can I get once I get it and will it look much better on my resume?! I have mostly warehouse exp. but I have done some customer service in the past. Just seems like most places want that A+ to even get in the door. I currently make 11an hr inside a warehouse doing manual/sub manual labor and I'm getting tired and too old to do this shyt. I'm taking a computer course at school as well. Please advise...

Btw, I'll be showing my face here more often. HL seems to be more quiet. Feels like I walked into a damn library when compared the coliseum and TLR

this was about 2 years back g; now a days I would grab that .pdf document and try professor messer videos on youtube; and study the exam in sections;

the videos I sent you were for a a+ but I'm not sure if the version still the one that the videos were made for , I don't think the A+ changed too much

yea i think the test numbers different but should be the same 701 & 702 instead of 801 & 802

ppl usually start off at help desk. make sure to sell customer service on your resume. the tech work is so easy that most of the questions you'll get in an interview are customer service related, well at least that's what i had.

@bdizzle since I have only an A+ cert and 0 experience you said it would be pointless getting the CCNA since by the time I actually gain experience for the job it would it expire. So would the next best cert to get be the MCITP cert?

It wouldn't be worthless, it just wouldn't be the best use of your time. A Microsoft cert in either Windows 7 or Active Directory would be a more efficient way to get into help desk because you'll more than likely be helping users with Windows/Office issues than you would troubleshooting a router or a switch.

Here's a job description for a typical help desk position:

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Your daily to-do list will look something like this.

1. Answer incoming calls and work within a very structured and team oriented environment

2. Interact with technical resources both internal/external to Fiserv to proactively triage and resolve incidents.

3. Provide timely, professional, and accurate responses to clients' issues.

4. Maintain an expert capability level within ticketing and paging systems.

5. Troubleshoot issues by consistently using defined troubleshooting questions and methods.

6. Respond to email notifications and inquiries as needed to ensure issues are resolved quickly.

7. Review incidents daily to ensure issue is being worked and service levels are met.

8. Multi-task between multiple critical or high severity issues.

9. Initiate event bridges that result from an outage or critical event.

10. Correctly determine the impact and urgency of issues and respond appropriately, according to pre-defined process

11. Read and understand technical manuals, procedural documentation, and create standard operating procedures

Required Qualifications:

Education Requirement:

* High School Diploma

Job Related Experience:

* 1+ years' experience in a Help Desk/Service Desk support

* Experience with ticket tracking systems such as Remedy

* Working knowledge of MS Windows operating systems and MS Office Suite

* Experience navigating the internal knowledge bases to research & diagnose issues

* Experience navigating the internet to research & diagnose issues

* Excellent customer service skills.

* Excellent written and oral communication skills

Is it possible you may be asked to configured a router or switch? Sure, but it's unlikely as shyt.
