Got a devops position offer this past week but the on call is twice a month. Probably gonna reject it. So sick of having to do on call duties. Literally the worst thing about IT.
Agreed, I’m going from a 10 week rotation to every 5 weeks and a slight raise that equates to around 20k. I’m already expecting my probable workload to increase but I’ll get the k8s production experience that the videos just aren’t able to provide + going from cloud engineer > senior Devops engineer title should open more doors if this job is terrible and I have to find another

how was it ? how long did you study? do you have/want CCNA?
I took around a month. I don’t have CCNA.

I'm glad i took the time to go over acronyms. I was gonna ignore them like I did with A+ but I learned my lesson with 1002. I don't think I got a single subnetting question. Overall, just about what I'd expect from a Comptia exam.

Sec+ up next

Did it have any practicals as far as setting up or troubleshooting networks. Was there a lot of multiple choice

I think there were about 5.
- Setting up a VLAN.
- Troubleshooting an issue with a cable (gotta know pinout color pattern)
- Troubleshooting computers that couldn't communicate with each other network
- Setting up WAPs between two buildings (what type of antennas to use)
- Troubleshooting switches' connectivity after a power outage

I think there was about 70 total questions. Lot of them with multiple-selection

Studying for CCNA
Got Neil Anderson from Udemy it's a good baseline well laid out and good labs. Kind of dry.

Doing a second round of studying with Jeremy's IT Lab on YouTube. Dude goes in depth, detailed and breaks it down. Has links for flashcards and Packet Tracer labs.

Question, so you all know I'm currently studying for Sec + and it's been going well. I'm currently at a new job unrelated to tech in the employment nonprofit sector. I have a B.A. in English and I'm 28 so I don't want to do helpdesk if I can't help it. I was wondering if I should maybe get a part-time job at nights or the weekends as helpdesk or tech support because I don't want the lack of experience to pigeon hold me.

Also, I've gotten some good advice on what cert pathways to take. I'm doing Sec+-CCNA-AWS-Azure Windows -Linux. Now does that job title look like Cloud Engineer, Sec Engineer or Dev ops with all those certs? Just confused on the exact roles I should look for. And also once I get Sec+ and CCNA I should leave my current just and apply for system admin?

Sorry if this has been answered already I've been backtracking this thread and I'm on page 67 but I think this is before the Cloud boom.

I been grinding studying during the summer trying to break into the field, just smoked my A+ Core 1 with a 765.:mjlit:

This field and how computers & networks work is so interesting, I'll be taking my Core 2 soon next paycheck just to be certified but I know A+ is small fry.

I'm also currently in a 12 week cohort focusing on AWS & the CCP, they got employee partners & resume counselors in the program who will try to help every graduate with a job. I really hope i'm making the right decision brehs :lupe:
I wanna be in ya'lls position soon.:banderas:
