Just started at WGU to try and get this Cyber Security degree. I'm currently a contractor now, but looking to get more technical and hands-on. I just don't know which path in Cyber. I here it's hard to break into. What should I be doing outside of school work? OSCP? Learn Kali Linux? I also thought about getting an AWS cert as well.

Anybody here tried acloudguru.com for AWS stuff?

If so what do you think about it?

did it when I did my aws but I would not do it again

Udemy has a lot of good people for half the cost. Jon Boso( I think that’s how you spell it) literally saved my ass because they are the reason I passed honestly

now I’m going over AWS labs and eventually will do my Sysops next year I am using Adrian Cantrill and I like it so far because he teaches and puts you to work with the labs he makes

What is your background and what are are you most interested in? Without knowing anything about you, I would say focus on learning networking and get comfortable with a scripting language(ideally python).

Yeah I just checked out this Adrian dude. I'm glad he has practice labs. The course bundle prices look like a good deal. I'm gonna bookmark his site for now.

All this is for later in the year after I finish my cyber courses.

I don't think a cyber security degree is needed but if it helps you get in the door then definitely pursue it. Most of the people I work with don't have Cyber Security degree. There are many different paths, some know people :mjpls:, some have their associates in networking, many starts out just answering calls then learn their way up. The basic my job would require is to get Linux +, Networking+ and Security plus+. Platforms you can learn Firewalls (Palo Alto, Checkpoint, Forntinet), Endpoint( Crowdstrike, Carbon Black), IPS/IDS(ASA firepower) etc. You can learn Qualys for VM..lol its so many tools out there.

You can become an incident response person, you get into compliance..lots of these companies have cyber sec compliance they must follow. You can get into auditing, risk management, privacy management, security project management.

Shiddd, got fired from my gig at the end of October:mjcry::mjlol:.

Was barely doing any work and it became painfully obvious. Was more concerned with these certs:skip:.
Also had some health challenges that made things difficult, but at the core, I couldnt muster enough fukks to do shyt on time:manny:
Tbh after the initial "shock"(first time getting fired), I was hella relieved :blessed:

Major projects were getting shelved cuz of covid and the clients being dissatisfied with the product and its delivery.
I also wasn't assigned to any project for close to a year :yeshrug:(barring some staff aug on one for like 2 weeks, right before it got shelved:mjlol:)

Went from requirement gathering sessions with clients to being stuck writing release notes, occasional product documentation, and testing an endless backlog of JIRA tickets, which boiled down to data entry and some business logic validation (Strictly in the GUI:unimpressed:)
Needless to say, for an aspiring IT gang, 6cert breh, I was bored out of my mind:unimpressed:
Since the firing, I thought maybe I could try my hands at building an app, and have been doing MERN stack courses on Udemy.

However the scope of the project in mind was a pipe dream given my mediocre programming acumen and my ever draining bank account. Plus my girl been acting grouchy all of a sudden:francis:

Now back on the cert grind. The plan is RHCSA, CKAD and AWS-CSA Pro before end of the March:youngsabo:(:troll:best case).
Go hard or stay broke right?:hubie:

Saving graces are being free all day, stimmy + unemployment checks
thankful them republic*nts lost all control :camby:
Wish me luck brehs :skip:

Brehs, my time in the wilderness has come to an end:mjcry::mjcry:

Got a gig with IBM in their cloud business. Now part of the 6 fig club :blessed::blessed::blessed:

With the full bonus, lets just say its closer to 200 than 150. shyt had me shook asf when the HR lady told me the offer:picard:

Just glad I only had to do AWS SA Pro, cuz your boy was running out of steam. When they scheduled the interviews, I figured that it might be one of my only shots at this type of bread, so prepped for the interview like a mug.

Had a 15 page manuscript of answers to potential interview questions. Popped an adderall like an hour before each interview(2 interviews with senior management) and was spitting mad bars:whew:

Now I gotta actually back my shyt up, and complete the scam:steviej:

Congrats bro! I dream of making that kind of money.

The bonus is almost of a third of the total compensation and is dependent on customer retention and other business factors. Still nice tho:wow:

Its called customer success manager. If they have an opening in your city, I would suggest for one to apply provided you have a couple of years experience in IT. I have 3 years so if that provides some context.

Here is a link for a role in San Diego. Seems they're filling that role nationally. Mine wasn't listed as tech re-entry but I think that re-entry position is a signal that they're welcoming a diverse pool of candidates.

That being said, I would recommend that you emphasize familiarity with devops practices, container orchestration(Kubernetes) et al., because the role deals with supporting large enterprises that have purchased entitlements to IBM cloud paks, which are pre-packaged solutions built on RedHat Openshift.

I used Adrian Cantrill's course. Its very thorough. Would def recommend. Its 80 bucks but well worth it.

I’m actually using his course for the AWS SA Associates now. Looks like I’m on the right track.
I also used Stephane Mareek's course on Udemy. I purchased his courses for the associates, dev, devops and sa-pro (taken the exams for aforementioned other than devops pro), then referenced each of them, but mostly his handouts as they served as refreshers for certain services.

Mareek's SA Pro course doesn't have hands-on demos, so I went through Cantrill course and did demos, and would read Mareek's SA Pro handouts to cement the key facts about each AWS service.

Mareek's notes came in handy for the advanced networking services, migration and hybrid cloud services
