so what's 6 certs gang official stance on wgu? :patrice:
thinking about enrolling into their BS in information technology program. i work full time at a tech startup but i have no obligations outside of myself, so i feel pretty confident that i could bang it out in a year or so. the price and competency based learning concept is very appealing to me.

anyone else here got any feedback on wgu? I’m gonna enroll in their Cybersecurity security program sometime around the end of this summer. In looking to make a career change from graphic design into this IT space. I’ll be the crash test dummy and let y’all know how it goes if no one else has been through it yet.

My goal was to study for the ccnp and the sysops this year after getting my aws and my ccna last year

but with the time off from studying( looking for work and finding a helpdesk job)

I am going to pause on all of that and go back to continuing to lab and build things with the certs I have before going forward with the next certs. I'll slowly read up on ccnp material a few times a week but i'm going to go heavy on the labbing

I plan I moving next year and I if that new job in a new place can be outside of helpdesk then i'll be happy as ever but having just certs and nothing else to show for it is not sitting right with me

I can always get more certs next year but I need to put in the work this year

An update from my last post regarding the round of interviews I did. The animation company I interviewed with offered me the job!

It is a System Administrator position, while it is still technically helpdesk-ish, it's definitely a step up. I will be working more with the infrastructure, working with Linux (!), and gaining a lot of other valuable skills. They said the person who was in this position before me was there a year before transferring to their SOC team. I'm going to be a sponge and soak up everything I can while I'm there.

A few days after I received the offer I got a request from an aerospace company to do an interview. I had put in so many applications, I had forgotten I even applied to a couple of their open positions. I knocked that shyt out of the park. After the AWS interview, I went back and hit the books, because I was definitely slacking. I was able to answer every question with ease and felt super confident while doing it.

I'm just so happy! I'm making more money and am getting closer and closer to meeting my goals. I definitely can make six figures before I am thirty.

My short-term goals at the moment are to get the Azure Fundamentals, CCNA, and the CompTIA CYSA certifications.

So about that MSP gig I took

Lasted all of 9 days before I was let go. Never got a chance to work. Never officially started my training period either.

My 1st week I was doing so-called training for Fortigate firewalls; spent most of that time being waterboarded with 84 hours of tedious,
soul-sucking powerpoint slides bad, voice acting, and multiple choice questions that were either static pages that didnt work 70% of the time or the
"correct Answers" bank of choices being mismatched because somebody rushed the programming of this shyt or something. Even with switching browsers,
I basically was trading one issue for the other or the same issues persisted. Also , the shyt was unskippable....:stopitslime:

Then their was the ConnectWise training which was like 336 hours:damn: of (Powerpoint slides, you guessed it) That I never got to finish because ....obviously

My first day of "work" all the red flags come pouring on. On top of the shytty training, The manager was objectively all around, your typical boomer cac;
insufferable dikk with a healthy dose of Dunning-Kruger effect. and he knew it too. That's why he kept going on and on about being a Type A personality who likes to "get'er done".
:comeon: Here we go with this shyt.

I can never reach him for any questions I had, but he was always pestering me every 30min - 1 Hour with "what are you working on" Messages in Teams.
I got to the point I had to point out to him how long this training shyt was and that it was bugged. wasn't trying to hear that shyt.

His reasoning for his short patience is because he wants me to hurry up so that I can begin shadowing another tech via Teams invite,
Despite the fact that they were already flying me out to their hick town HQ to shadow in person because in his own words "online shadowing and training is inefficient and problematic"

So which one is it?:hula:

bytch ass just wanted to hit me with some busy-work; the truth is he wanted that senior tech to shadow me and babysit me.
I still got 4 weeks worth of fukking Partner training prequisutes to finish and this dude is OD nuthugging and badgering me about dumb shyt and contradicting himself in the process.

So my second to last day, he hits me up on teams to discuss my "performance". Mind you I havent officialy started to train yet much more work tickets. It's all pure conjecture on is part.
He thought he could use this opportunity to start talking spicy and I just cut him short and stood my ground.
Set his ass straight as professionally as I could. Just straight facts and flipping his own words against him. Cac tried to act like he had another meeting so he can evade the verbal assault I was putting on his ass.
He wouldnt acknowledge the facts I was dropping, just repeating the same talking points before jumping off like Piers Morgan or some shyt

The next morning. I get into the all-hands meeting at the last minute because he forgot to send me the link, the same one he's been saying he was going to properly introduce me to the team for like a whole week.

I've only been on for less than 10 secs and he's already pressing me about "turning my camera on". Nobody else outside of him, his other cac buddies and higher ups has theirs on, so that's like 6 people total.
I turned the cam on and the cacs all froze mid convo, jaws tightening up, gettin all awkward and shyt. I felt like I just walkked in on some shyt they didnt want me to hear.
HEAVY :mjpls: VIBES.
The manager was clearly upset talking about something that happened and ended with "that's all I got to say about that" constantly blinking and turning red and shyt. More than likely he was talking about me
because 10 minutes after that meeting ended, He calls me via Teams to fire me talking all that "this aint gonna work out shyt with some other cac spectating the whole thing.
I knew it was coming because I felt like he had been trying to instigate a situation that would give him an excuse to. I didnt even break stride.
Just told'em to send me the return labels for equipement they shipped to me and told'em to get fukked.

a few others things,

- The muthafukker would just randomly remote into my work laptop unnannounced. The mouse cursor would move on it's own when I would try do that shytty ass training sometimes and he didnt think I would notice.
- work laptop they sent me wasnt anywhere near properly configured, VPN didnt work either
- Also, I suspect there was some kind of keystroke monitoring software or something running on the laptop because every 10 minutes
a flicker or dimming of the screen would happen as if my desktop was being captured or snapshotted. (Always on queue, and very weird)
- The flight I was booked for was canceled; My seat was vacant. and this happened 3 days before I was actually let go and that was before we had words with each other. He had this shyt in the works all alone.

:snoop: bytch ass MF

I just dodged a bullet, but at least I got a check out of these MF. On to the next one.

Moral of the story; Never stop putting out feelers or applying to jobs just because you accept an offer. Some fukk shyt can and likely will happen, and it's better to have something lined up just in case.

Let me just pause to say fukk Connectwise; That's all. Kudos to anyone who uses that shyt. Looks like it'll be a nightmare.

Yeah that was the 1st red flag. The 2nd was I kept asking him if I was going to be working with any of the stuff listed in the job description regularly and it was always no.

These fukkers are tacky and run their company like a country club

I would stay far away from SOC work.

I probably left 3 companies in a row for outright lying about my job duties and the position. Thinking they could just flip the script and their would be no consequences. Less than a year later I'm putting in my notice and going elsewhere.

I would make sure to leave that company some bad reviews on each of the major job boards. The last two places I quit still haven't refilled my old position months later.

That's crazy.

You definitely dodged a bullet there. When a company is on some b.s. from the jump its always better to just count your losses and bounce.

Despite any initial embarrassment and frustration, it saves a lot of headache in the long run. If they're like that not even 5 minutes after you start you can only imagine what it would be like later down the line. This is why I'm never in a rush to update my LinkedIn profile until I know for sure its gonna work out. You don't want potential employers asking about that job. Its like telling everyone you got a new girlfriend only for her to switch on you so bad that you gotta bush her and now you got egg on your face having to explain why shyt didn't work out lol.

This is why I always read reviews on glassdoor and look at the company profile pictures to see if there's anybody that looks like me working there. Nothing is guaranteed but the more research you do, the better. I've flat out refused some roles when I get any :mjpls: vibes or i just don't like the energy.

Remoting to your laptop alone is reason enough to walk out. I would have resigned on the spot for that bullshyt. These companies think people don't have options or something.
