Off topic, but fukk it, testimony time lol.

Just moved into my new crib 3 days ago, I'm going from a 1200 sqft, 3rd floor apartment
to a 3000 sq ft house. (fukk that upstairs life). All hardwood / marble floors. This shyt is surreal yo. Sometimes, I cant even believe I'm out here getting it like this. Every time I step in that bytch it just feels like i'm here for vacation or some shyt. Alot of times, success doesn't register like that, because I be so focus on grinding towards the next phase , yada yada....

Gave my moms a lil Skype tour and she was floored by everything I showed her. She was all glowing and jovial and shyt lol. When she said to me " I'm so glad I raised a winner", the manner in which she said that I could tell it was a big weight lifted off her mind.
and likewise it was a big weight off mines as well. I didnt even know I needed to hear that yo. Ma finally over-stands, that I didnt just leave home to be a bum in another city; She now knows and see with her own eyes that I made the most of my time away from Memphis and made a great living for myself and my wife (she a hustler too). She truly knows that I'm alright when I say so now.

When me and my wife struggled financially, we struggled quietly and stood on our own two. We never moved back in with our parents or asked for help. We brought ourselves back from financial hell and shot well past our intended goals. We got this 'teamwork-make-the-dreamwork' mentality about everything that most couples dont have the luxury of knowing. Ma dukes acknowledging this just puts the stamp on it.

I say all this because I want to drive home to aspiring IT brehs how important it is to stay the course and push through all of the bullshyt. Even while you're kneedeep in the shyt, you must anchor yourself, trust in your abilities and have the discernment to know that shyt won't suck forever. Stay on your grind and dont let set backs, delays and missed opportunities mindfukk you to the point you cant stay focused.

Vent, smash a shyt ton of comfort food and beers for a day if you need to, but get right back on your purpose.

1 last thing. It's a marathon, not a race. I know when we start out, we all want to get every hot certification under the sun, hoping' it'll lead to our big break,....that's a part of it...

But I want to emphasize, chase skills more than you chase certs.

Certs get you past HR drones for the most part, skills get you past technical interviewers and hiring mangers.

that's all I got.

They making you go back to the office?

They had a vote with my team. We almost split that shyt 50/50 :gucci:. The majority voted to stay remote. This shyt should've been 90/10 in favor of us staying remote. I'm looking at my emails wondering who the fukk wants to commute to headquarters in Chicago traffic... Or doesn't wanna work from home anymore...

The soonest they said we'd be back is July but I'm looking to bounce before then. I'm on a 12 month contract but I'm not sticking around for that.

Btw, I'm kinda of surprised to hear the RHCSA isn't doing it for you. I'm sorry to hear that especially after i came up in hear singing the certs praises. Sounds like you found your next move though so congrats on that.

so what's 6 certs gang official stance on wgu? :patrice:
thinking about enrolling into their BS in information technology program. i work full time at a tech startup but i have no obligations outside of myself, so i feel pretty confident that i could bang it out in a year or so. the price and competency based learning concept is very appealing to me.

Do it if you do better having a track or material to follow. It's a good program for getting you a job.

That's what's up brehs.

If you alive and breathing... There is always hope. There's always a chance to be better. All the money you don't have all the jobs you don't land or decide not take or even the failures you have to face. As long as you're breathing-- you have a chance to make all that money or find a better job. It's a marathon 100% and too many people fizzle out early when they don't see the results right away.

I'm glad with what this thread has shaped into. Brehs in here like yourself are really doing it and motivating/inspiring others:salute:.

Damn Breh, I cant stand these stupid MFs who mess up the gravy train for others because they dont want to be "stuck" at home for whatever miserable ass reason. Fukk that office life. Hope you find something 100% remote soon.

I was dealing with that stuff at my last job, dude's were so desperate for office interaction that they was scheduling virtual happy hours and shyt:hhh:

I never attended any of those shyts either.:mjlol:I'd clock out exactly at my scheduled time

During the Zoom calls, Mfers would be bytchin and moaning about 'office life' and all that dumb shyt for half the meeting.
they'd try to passive aggressively intimidate MF into having their webcam on at all times. thankfully too many of us were on some "fukk that" type of energy so they couldnt get us all. They just had to accept it.

They even had virtual concerts and Christmas carols and shyt...pathetic yo. MFs would be lookin visibly dead on the inside while being forced to do goofy shyt like "air-guitars" and dressing up like elves and shyt.:scust:

So glad I got out that bytch before we had to go back :blessed:to the office.

Yeah, RHCSA hasnt done much as far as getting a pure Linux Admin role, but it did spark some interest from the technical interviewers. He just used the RHCSA to segue into questioning me about linux experience which I thankfully was able to recall and cobble up some BS response that turned out to be correct lol. I had not touch that shyt in a while.

Maybe once I start going for gigs in the the government sector, the RHCSA will be more respected since most of their servers run Red Hat. It hasnt done much of shyt in the mainstream IT jobmarket besides make my resume look good. I dont think the RHCSA is useless I just havent applied to government jobs yet, mostly bcause they require at minimum a secret clearance and the Security cert which hasnt ben on my radar since I started IT. I'm turning my focus towards CCNP, since I been self concious about my networking skills for a while now.

networking skills are passable but it's the biggest piece of the puzzle i'm missing as far as advanced skills. My new job is about to bless me with all of that though:blessed:. Maybe I'll get the CCNP - Security then finally go fo a Linux job, according to the DOD chart, that would qualify me for Level 3 IAT positions.

I'm just gonna maintain my basic RHCSA skills and hold off on the RHCE until it makes sense to pursue it again. Plus I havent done alot of Linux anyway and will more than likely have to leverage all my other skills to get a Linux role. Red Hat themselves turned me down for a 100% remote tech support role. So I'm kinda ehh :francis:on fukking with any more Linux certs ...for now

:laff::laff:

It will be a cold day in hell before I ever sit behind a desk in an office for 8 hours a day ever again, I don't care how much it pays.

With a year of independence, cost saving and convenience of working from home, WHY the fuvk these goofies want to go back to an office is beyond me. If they want interactions then go on meetup.com for that shyt. fukk I look like travelling during rush hour traffic to and from work every day.

A combination of working in the field and from home suits me to a tee, but I'll never do the office shyt again and if they try to force it I'm bouncing. The most I'll do is pop in every now and again but that's it.

Yeah man , the cats out of the bag now when it comes to working remote. Nobody's accepting that lame ass " It cant be done" shyt anymore. Companies will either adapt or lose their employees. I'm sure there will be the option to come into the office for those who want to, but after a while, with more comapnies realizing how much money they are saving on leasing etc, investors might put enpugh pressure on management to bush coming into the office altogether; Why keep the office open and spend unnecessary money for a small amount of people who hate being at home.

Besides office environments are counerproductive and toxic as shyt. The conniving ass-kissers and nosey instigators are the only ones missing out now, so fukk'em.

This is the life breh,

I invested in a good hotspot that last 10 hours so I can work from anywhere I want, Bruh at one point I was closing tickets from a beach, or going on morning walks and anwering inqueries about shyt from Cisco jabber on my work phone. while having brunch on the balcony at 5 star restaraunts.

this is what work/life balance looks like. Complete freedom

Covid has set the stage for Cloud, mobility and virtualization to become even more adopted than before.

I do its more of a system admin role. As far as certs if you are familiar with EMR systems like Epic, Allscripts and nextgen would be a plus. I can only speak for my hospital but i came in with no knowledge of EMR systems but they provided on the job training. If you do want to gain experience for a leg up i would train in Epic, it has like 50% of the market share for EMR software. Being familliar with O365, AD and windows server will also help. Majority of hospitals are windows shops
