Yeah after my research, most cloud engineer roles are basically intermediate positions and not really entry level.

Alot of sysadmin tasks (networking, OS management) for on-prem server have been abstracted away by the cloud providers. Also since all resources are on the cloud, automating tasks requires making rest api calls, which is basically a developer skillset.

Most cloud gigs are essentially devop roles which deal with config management, orchestration and containerization. An appreciation for software development is helpful.

So in effect, the bar to join the 6 cert gang aint the same as it used to be.

Yeah you are right

but it does come with clout for lower level positions. I get phone calls and emails more constantly now since I got my CCNA

but it seems like you have to put in a lot of work just to get into the cloud roles which makes sense I guess

but these youtubers and websites need to stop lying to the newcomers saying that getting a cert or two will get you a high paying job. The cert is only a piece of it.

Because I don’t have more experience it’s like my aws cert is just sitting there lol

but I did sign up to this Adrian Cantrill AWS course, it’s costly but it looks like this man plays no games when it comes to AWS. He includes projects that you can do to add to the resume apparently, I found out about him on LinkedIn.

failed my Net+ pretty bummed right now :mjcry:

Is your retake soon?

try to get back in it as soon as you can, like 2 weeks max

just have to focus more on what you didn’t get and make it your strong points

you took the test already so you know what it looks like

you’ll get it the next time :myman:

Yeah AWS certs are the IT gold rush. Also, when a cert gains popularity, its value diminishes, cuz every one and they momma hops on the wave.

These cloud providers tryna get a quick buck by not enforcing any experience requirements and making them all multiple choice.

Thats why im tryna do CSA-Pro, cuz it seems thats still respected. However me getting the cert without experience that would reduce the value of the cert, but naturally, thats none of my concern as long it works in my favor.

They're changing the format for AWS exams at least the Sysops. Its going to be a hands on test with a handful of multiple choice.

Firstly,

I copped me a server desktop off Amazon, It's a Dell HP Z820 with:

16 core Intel Xeon 3.1 gHZ to 4.2gHZ
128GB of RAM
2 TB HDD + 500GB SSD

It's gonna cost $600 - $1100 depending on how loaded you want you PC to come packaged. I decided to go all out just to have extra cushion for my future resource needs

Other than the hardware, google can take care of everything else

I have accounts on Udemy, Oreilly, Pluralsight, Linux Academy, CBT Nuggets, ITTV PRo and earlier on I used TestOut.com

Between those, I have an endless selection of topics to learn and apply to my skillset

Some courses aint going to click with you due to pacing, delivery of instructor or inconsistent continuity between sections. SO you will have to get a feel for that as you go.
128 GB of RAM:wow::wow:

Im out here with 16GB and my shyt be discombobulating when running some chrome tabs, vscode and a pair of react+express servers:mjcry::heh:

LOL

Yeah my dude when you get the chance, invest in a desktop server fully loaded

My shyt runs so damn smooth and quiet. No whirring and wooshing

I set up 75% of my VDI environment, running like 4 virtual servers and 3 workstations yadda yadda and then some.

My rig is unphased by all the shyt I have running concurrently

bytch like 70lbs and wide as a MF though lol, but its worth it.

my powerbill hasnt had any noticable change either so dont be afraid of that

I bought a new laptop and I thought I was good with 16gb

but now that I’m stepping up to the next level I’m realizing that I’m going to need a tower that I need to remote into

I’m looking at Amazon now:to:

That second stimulus coming right?:patrice:

Investing in myself is the best investment :lupe:

The rationale I use when I cop udemy courses that I end up only going halfway in

11.99 is less than 2 popeye spicy chicken meals right :lupe:.

That being said. My laptop like 4 yrs old, but I'll keep rocking with it till either I get a new job or it craps out. I replaced the hard drive in 2019 and RAM in 2020. So i should be straight.

US cyber security agencies get $9bn in Biden plan
New funding proposals come as US government reels from the impact of the December 2020 SolarWinds attack

US cyber security agencies get $9bn in Biden plan

"President-elect Biden is calling on Congress to launch the most ambitious effort ever to modernise and secure federal IT and networks.”

The proposals are designed to help remediate the impact of the December 2020 SolarWinds Solorigate/Sunburst breach – a long-running cyber espionage campaign probably conducted at Moscow’s behest, which has impacted multiple agencies of the federal government, as well as tech companies – as well as to bolster the US’s defences around the Covid-19 vaccine process, which has itself attracted the attention of malicious actors.

The initial $9bn investment will help the CISA and the General Services Administration (GSA) launch a number of new IT and cyber security shared services, as well as complete cyber security upgrades at other federal agencies.

Also, Biden is proposing to invest a total of $300m to build new secure technology programmes at the GSA, $200m to surge the recruitment of new cyber security technology and engineering expertise, and $690m to improve security monitoring and incident response across the government.

Get into cyber security, thats all I can say
I'm going for this. I already have a degree but I don't use it.

Is a degree in Computer Science necessary? If I can provide experience and projects and continuing education do you think I land a job?
My community college offers certificates in cyber security and I'm weighing that against getting a full blown CS degree.

You can probably just have a cyber security degree but having a comp sci / sys admin degree is EXTREMELY helpful

Shows you understand underlying infrastructure at a technical level which can get you into cyber security engineering as well as operations

Very good for ethical hacking as well
