anyone use code academy, is it worth subscribing to for their python 3 course?
I’m on their pro sub and doing JavaScript right now.. the instructions for their projects suck dikk, I do the practice and review and have a notepad I jot everything down in and I do reviews consistently and I have to use hints every time

its discouraging cause I’ll do the excersises and lessons no problem. Then the projects come and the solutions for each step have extra shyt outside of the instructions.

I feel gipped paying 30+ dollars a month to ultimately find out I don’t understand it despite doing this shot for hours

If it makes you feel better, that's how programming feels in general. It was probably a year or more when I was trying to teach myself before things started to make sense, and maybe 6 or 7 weeks when I took my college classes. Stick with it though, eventually it'll just click.

When I look at security cleared jobs it's mainly jobs in the cyber security industry or government related jobs. Are these kind of jobs expected to continue growing over the next 10 years?

If they are, I've just found our a path to join yall on that 6 fig 6 certs life :ohhh:

Shiddd, got fired from my gig at the end of October:mjcry::mjlol:.

Was barely doing any work and it became painfully obvious. Was more concerned with these certs:skip:.
Also had some health challenges that made things difficult, but at the core, I couldnt muster enough fukks to do shyt on time:manny:
Tbh after the initial "shock"(first time getting fired), I was hella relieved :blessed:

Major projects were getting shelved cuz of covid and the clients being dissatisfied with the product and its delivery.
I also wasn't assigned to any project for close to a year :yeshrug:(barring some staff aug on one for like 2 weeks, right before it got shelved:mjlol:)

Went from requirement gathering sessions with clients to being stuck writing release notes, occasional product documentation, and testing an endless backlog of JIRA tickets, which boiled down to data entry and some business logic validation (Strictly in the GUI:unimpressed:)
Needless to say, for an aspiring IT gang, 6cert breh, I was bored out of my mind:unimpressed:
Since the firing, I thought maybe I could try my hands at building an app, and have been doing MERN stack courses on Udemy.

However the scope of the project in mind was a pipe dream given my mediocre programming acumen and my ever draining bank account. Plus my girl been acting grouchy all of a sudden:francis:

Now back on the cert grind. The plan is RHCSA, CKAD and AWS-CSA Pro before end of the March:youngsabo:(:troll:best case).
Go hard or stay broke right?:hubie:

Saving graces are being free all day, stimmy + unemployment checks
thankful them republic*nts lost all control :camby:
Wish me luck brehs :skip:

I have not worked since September 2019 and even though im getting more calls now with my CCNA i'm not really itching to jump back ASAP

The job market now if horrific and covid is still catching bodies. My fear of being out of work went out the window once I realized that most of us is out of work

Also being able to flip the extra money into self improvement and catching more certs have been good

Yes, I do feel cybersecurity jobs will grow in the government, but it's really going to depend on the agency the demand. NSA and Department of Defense are two I know for sure. Government plans are a long game. Clearances can take a year or longer to adjudicate and more than likely you'll start in a role you don't want to be in just to get a foot in the door. Contracting can be a easier path and pay more money, but there is still the lengthy clearance adjudication process and I don't know if you can transfer if you leave your original sponsor.

Yeah, COVID kinda reduced the stigma of being unemployed. What you being doing since then tho? Seems like quite a while without work.

The issue is too is that the jobs out there want to pay low and not remote

Now that I got my aws and CCNA I’m starting my ccnp training, going back and doing aws labs and will be doing this sys ops training course and try to get some aws labs under my belt

I’m still going for a desktop support position just to make up for the time off but I’m waiting for the flood of new Covid cases that’ll come from New Years to come and go, but I’m still looking for jobs now.

Yeah after my research, most cloud engineer roles are basically intermediate positions and not really entry level.

Alot of sysadmin tasks (networking, OS management) for on-prem server have been abstracted away by the cloud providers. Also since all resources are on the cloud, automating tasks requires making rest api calls, which is basically a developer skillset.

Most cloud gigs are essentially devop roles which deal with config management, orchestration and containerization. An appreciation for software development is helpful.

So in effect, the bar to join the 6 cert gang aint the same as it used to be.
