The federal government posted a $1.8 trillion budget deficit during the fiscal year that ended on September 30, despite an increase in tax revenue, thanks to higher spending and the rapid growth of interest costs tied to the $35.6 trillion national debt.

The only good news contained in the Congressional Budget Office's latest revenue report is that the federal budget deficit did not get significantly worse during the most recent fiscal year. The deficit increased by a mere $139 billion when compared to the previous year.

But the fact that the deficit increased at all in a year when revenue from federal tax collections climbed by 11 percent—from $4.4 trillion to $4.9 trillion—suggests something about the nature of the fiscal problems facing the federal government. Specifically: that it's a spending problem. The federal government spent $6.75 trillion last year.

More specifically, it's a borrowing problem. While spending increased by about 10 percent from the year before, the interest payments on the national debt ballooned by 34 percent—from $710 billion to $950 billion. That sharp increase reflects both the size of the national debt, which is now roughly as large as the nation's annual economic output for the first time since World War II, and the rising interest rates that have been a feature of the economy for the past few years.

Interest rates might be on their way down, but that's unlikely to provide much relief. According to CBO projections published earlier this year, the cost of serving the national debt will continue to skyrocket in the coming years. By 2034, the CBO estimates that the federal government will spend more than $1.6 trillion on interest payments.

.......

It's gonna be a long 2025, brehs. I wonder how the stock market is gonna handle this news.

The Truth
Cut.. them.. off

I kinda understand the Ukraine war… but the Israel one is gonna pull us straight into WW3

Russia not doing shyt but trying to stay afloat the longest while draining resources. That Israeli Prime Minister dude is literally trying to drag out a war or commit genocide freely.. that seems to be the end goal

Edit: Article not even about the war :dahell: :camby:

people who dont understand macro economics shouldnt comment on it

and they probably shouldnt trade stocks or crypto either

This may be the dumbest thing i've read on this board.
Many opinions on foreign aid are rooted in ethical considerations, especially when it comes to Israel.
Israel has universal healthcare thanks to America, while Americans don't have it themselves.
And Israel is committing genocide at the moment.
And before this genocide they were controlling a forced open air prison with an agenda of ethno cleansing.

Also historical events often shape public opinion on foreign aid, and understanding the political or social context can be just as important as economic analysis.

See why would one need to understand macro economics when it pertains to foreing aid?
Macroeconomics helps explain how resources are allocated in an economy. If there are pressing domestic needs, understanding economic principles can clarify the trade-offs between foreign aid and addressing local issues.
Understanding economic principles can clarify the trade-offs between foreign aid and addressing local issues, like the hurricanes in Florida right now.
But America gains absolutely nothing from keep on giving money to Israel, absolutely nothing except more enemies!!

Macroeconomics also provides insight into the government's budget constraints and the implications of spending.
However as we all know, this point is moot, because there are no budget constraints when it comes to Israel, it's always here's the money and here's even more.

Foreign aid to Israel does not require an understanding of macro economics at all.
There's too many ethical issues to focus on

Another doomer thread about the market on the Coli huh. Can't wait to bump this in a few months, just like the last one.

Americans have a weird fixation on the end times, even as less and less people attend church and believe in god

seeing this from the pews, is really wild to witness.

Anyone who thinks we spent $2 trillion on Israel/Ukraine in a year really shouldn't be making political threads. :dead:

Well..... yes and no

The $1.8 trillion budget deficit refers to the overall shortfall between federal spending and revenue for the entire government.
But yes, Ukraine and Israel combined is generally in the range of billions of dollars, not trillions.

True, but if we talk about the topic of corrupt foreign aid overall and american militarism I don't think it's too out of scope.
But the "$2 Trillion in a year" is something that is too far fetched, over time would be better.
