There is no defeating this ideology by conventional means. Daesh has found the ultimate motivator, recruitment tool, social network and they are too resolute to surrender. The only solutions that I can see is to 1) Infiltrate the organization at the highest levels and reprogram the followers, 2) Turn the world's muslims against them somehow or 3)Total war. 3) would probably result in WWIII so right now Daesh is winning and other than death from above, our hands are tied. Really, the disrespect towards France is unwarranted. They bullied Europe for more of post-Roman history, and even took over the whole damn continent in the 1800's. Nobody is denying France was once tough but that was ages ago just like UK. There is even a quote by Malcolm X in his biography on one of the pages about UK and France and how they fell. I forgot the exact quote but that was over 50 years so they have been this way for ages. The Napoleon era does not really count as a modern era. In WW2 they are well known for lasting literally one month during the entire 6 year war

The French draft resolution for the UNSC is practically ready. It's a declaration of war on Daesh. Calls for UN members to “take all necessary measures” to defeat Daesh. Language is vague to ensure approval. Russia and China will say "yes". Everyone knows the devil in vague UN resolution details.

wow this is pretty scary. The USA literally fukked up that whole region and is now taking the back seat to France and Russia of all places. It's looking more and more like we will need a war ready President in 2016.
