Because people couldn't really go anywhere or do anything last year. Which could lead to more listens/streams, etc. But that's just how I think it should of been done. I understand your point though and you're right about current music having a short shelf lifehow does dropping peak pandemic when you can't tour, do clubs, and barely do live press make sense?
edit: and yall saying b/c-list players should've dropped, they are the undercard of festivals, they rely on club, campus, and small theater shows...touring is just as important to them as the headliners. why drop some shyt your fans won't be listening to a year later when you can tour? only the big dogs can do that - we all talk about the short shelf life of music yet yall want them to drop 6+ months out before they can perform live
