Is Youtube muting videos by default if you aren't logged in?

I read something a few days ago that said Youtube puts videos on mute by default now if you are not logged in to a Google account. This was presumably done to annoy the users so they will log in and Google can track them easier. This is now happening to me. Is anyone else experiencing this?

i noticed it happen to me a few times, made me question whether i did it myself or not

Yep. They've been doing this to me while I'm logged in. I'd rather they paused them automatically, rather than playing them but on mute.
