I'd say it's more Ben's fault than Tomlin's.. I def. don't think Tomlin should be on the hot seat .. BUT he's not perfect. Hear me out.
Follow the Steelers closely and you know this team does NOT get up to play bad teams. Every year it's the same story.. when we play the lowest of the low in the league, it's always either a loss, or some bullshyt 13-9 or 16-13 victory when other teams are running up the score on them. This dates back to 2009 when we missed the playoffs by managing to lose to the Bears, Raiders, Chiefs, and Browns, all losing teams who missed the playoffs. This was sandwiched between two Super Bowl years so it's not like there was some lack of talent. Then last year even though we were 12-4 we BARELY squeaked by the hapless Colts (23-20), Jaguars (17-13), Chiefs (13-9), and Browns (13-9). We looked like we didn't even care to play the fukking games. Just going through the motions. This year we lost to the Raiders, Titans, Browns, Chargers (who couldn't beat ANYONE of note), and barely squeaked by the Chiefs 16-13 in overtime.. They had their first regulation lead OF THE SEASON against us.. 9 games in. I mean.. there is a serious problem with Tomlin not instilling a sense of a urgency to get up for the "easy" games. Like he doesn't understand there are no easy games in the NFL. Every time it's the same story.. either a loss or a barely eeked out W with a miserably pathetic scoring output. 2009, 2011, and 2012 seasons are all like that.
I do believe there is an arrogance about Tomlin that doesn't allow him to see the "easy" games for the difficult traps they actually can be. I also blame Ben for this as our offense is typically the unit that plays down to the level of competition. Imagine Aaron Rodgers playing a defense that gives up 30 ppg and him coming away with 21 or 16 or 13.. or 10 like in the MUST-WIN, do-or-die game against the Bengals. Never.. but Ben pulls this 4 or 5 times per season.
