When I watch it I don't think of it as a cinematic masterpiece or anything, but it's also one of the few movies where if I saw it on tv I would probably sit and watch all of it.
So, I don't know f that answers the question. So many amazing performances, and not just Kilmer. I am not even the world's buggest Kurt Russel fan but he was great. Paxton was great. fukking Michael Biehn was great. Sam Elliot and Powers Boothe were great.
At the end of the day, great movies are good scenes with good performances that you remember, right? If so, it's a good movie.
I sort of feel like there are "films" (think Godfather, No Country For Old Men, Drive, etc.) and "movies" and Tombstone feels more like a "movie" if that makes any sense.

It's one of my favorite movies. I get what you're saying here but I didn't think Kilmer was the only great performance. I thought pretty much everyone was great. Powers Boothe as Curly bill and Michael Biehn as Ringo were great villains.
But my favorite was fukking Stephen Lang as Ike Clanton.
So many memorable lines and actions. Dude accuses Doc of cheatin in the card game. bartender says nobody cheated u. He smacks the shyt out of him on some "don't take no lip from no bartenders neither

It's a great movie filled with great performances all around, Kilmer just went the extra mile and dropped a once in a lifetime performance.
Without him it would still be a great movie because the direction is strong and the writing especially is gold.

I honestly feel like Johnny Depp looked at Kilmer's performance in this and applied some of it to some of his future roles.
