Sixth sense had some good ones as well.
that scene was funny to me. was that thing that popped out real of did he imagine it cause the other guy didn't faint like he did.http://vimeo.com/19215499
Brilliant directing
-the sound design and camera work (like the guy in the comments said)
-Dan's acting
-the fact that it's scary in broad daylight
Lynch
Btw, Entrance = en trance = in a trance
OP, that's a great choice. Hard to argue against that really...it's probably the greatest jump scare ever.
If we are talking strictly building up tension, another scene that deserves kudos is the blood sample scene from The Thing :

Carpenter is likely the most underrated American director ever because he mostly did straight horror. But cot damn did this dude know how to write a scene. You KNOW that at least one of them test is fukked but you've no choice but to anxiously wait and find out which one.
A crazy mindfukk moment of that scene too is the food on the table.
Peep it at 3:23 and then at 3:26
I kinda makes you wonder if all of what is going on is reality, or if its another dream again
wow that scene was great. is the whole movie this good???
