She wrote about that in relation to the Mister Cee shyt that happened, and brought it up in that context. Why would she just casually mention while Biggie was alive, or even out of nowhere prior to the Mister Cee situation, "oh yeah, Biggie was cool with a nikka who turned out to be a homo". How would that have even fit into the context of an article on Big or an album review? You act like she just popped outta nowhere with it on some smear campaign shyt.

.

:krs: her "proper context" being a twitter debate about trolls clowning Mister Cee..

Okay...

Maybe a better context to introduce this fact would have been while she was a pseudo writer on the set of Notorious and she described George Tillman's work on the project as "dedication to detail and commitment to truth"...

You would think that if this gay guy Mann was really Big's best friend, she would have mentioned it to the film makers or atleast been vocal about him not being included...Yanno seeing how she was so concerned and impressed with their "dedication to detail and the truth"..

And yeah, people that follow hip-hop journalism know who Dream Hampton is...

Exactly..Which makes your original statement that "nobody knew who she was 2 months ago" nugatory...

:krs:

Your assertion that this type of thread should have been made arbitrarily 5 years ago is ridiculous...Especially since within the same post you are able to not only understand, but promote the concept of context brought on by current events...

:krs:

So from your perspective it's cool for Dream to out Big's relationships in context of the Big Cee story.. But out of bounds when posters bring up Dream's past in context of her being part of this recent story?

N!gga please

You lost me about midway into your post, but I toughed it out anyway and tried to get to the root of what the hell your point was...

I didn't say this thread should have been made 5 years ago, or whenever... what I'm saying is the outpour of sudden discrediting of Dream Hampton's integrity as a writer just HAPPENS to come soon as the Nas shyt happened, a lot of it coming from people who had next to no clue who she was, or only knew her as the girl that wrote 'Decoded'.

Exactly..Which makes your original statement that "nobody knew who she was 2 months ago" nugatory...

Nah, my statement still stands. There are some people who knew who she was. Some. But a lot of people were either "who the fukk is this bytch", or "oh she's Jay-Z's friend"... when her career rolls back much further than being on Twitter or co-writing a book two years ago. So now she's just a :duck: artist who throws wild accusations outta nowhere, when in reality she has 20 years of writing experience (and not just about hip-hop) to her credit.

And I'm not saying everything she says is right. She comes off as a bit of an egotist at times, and especially on Twitter. I'm just sayin'... I've been on this board just like you have... look at how over the last month, all of a sudden Dream Hampton tells ducktales and has always been biased against certain artists... but three months ago, nobody thought one way or another about her.

My brother..If this is your biggest gripe let me break this down in it's simplest form...

On Sept 10, 2001. How many people were talking about Bin Laden?

You have to be smart enough to realize how the occurance of events sets off a certain response...

Bringing up that fact is a diversion to the topic at hand...She made herself infamous in the eyes of hip hop fans by her own words and actions...If your goal isn't to defend or protect her, what good does mocking or questioning fans reactions to her do?

Like I said you seem to have no problem realizing how context works...

BP1 anniversary was yesterday...

Where in my post am I contesting that...

I'm not even just talking about this thread in particular. I'm talking about numerous posts since August in which the premise was "ohhh Dream Hampton wrote it, it was probably a biased lie"... when until she tweeted something about the god NaS's Untitled album, nothing she ever wrote came into question. I even remember past articles, shyt that had been around for years, being brought up out the blue on some "see, this bytch don't know what she's talkin' bout" mode... it's just funny to me. Nothin' serious, just funny.

Well if you pay attention to responses from O.G. posters here (and from that :hamster: site)

Dream Hampton, Toure and Elliot Wilson have been getted sh1tted on for years for their various shenanigans...

Anytime a link has been posted with their name it usually gets dismissed because of their lack of crediblity...

It's not like people loved her and now turned on her..

:smugfavre:

This is why Pimp C, Goodie Mob and Outkast used to shyt on NY media... Writing like this was the norm back in the day.. It was actually much worse in the mid 90's...

Exactly. I remember the mid-90's NY hip hop journalism and it was horrible. I specifically remember reading the review of Westside Connects "Bow Down" in my JC's cafeteria with some of the homies (no Hawthorne the Snuggla) and just being like:mindblown: Terrible.

That's why since about the age of 16-17 i stopped looking out for the Source and other magazine reviews. Because it's all the opinion of one person. How can one person decide if an album is great or deserves a certain amount of mics. Plus if u r a fan of a certain artist ur more likely to give that person a positive review.

No one should ever take anything The Source or XXL ever did as any form of objective truth. Aside from a handful of good articles and pieces that slipped through the cracks, those mags were a complete front for a personal agenda and devoid of integrity.

If a magazine "beefs" with another magazine, and puts people on their cover to spite the other, they really arent worth wiping your ass with

The reviews are one thing, but the ratings (to my understanding) have always been a group decision. I would say the Source's ratings were accurate most of the time... at least up until around the late-90s and around when that Made Men shyt got a 4.5... they actually used to hold weight. Even if it was an album you thought deserved a 5, but it got a 4.5, they were rarely ever just waaaaay off with 'em. There's only a handful I recall thinking they were completely and utterly wrong about. If anything, I had more trouble believing an E-40 album deserved 4 mics, than I did with anything being rated lower than I thought.

Sans this:

Prodigy and Nas got talked into beef with Jay and are probably living to regret it. “Takeover “ is Jay’s response to both rappers. “Don’t let me do it to you/ ‘Cuz I overdo it ,“ he warns. Boy, does he ever.

:why:

And this:

His videos-—where bikini-clad models end up drenched in bubbly-—are a combination of peer pressure and unnecessary pandering to the South.

:why:

It's not that bad a review. :ld:

With that said, I think it's fair game for someone to scrutinize her objectivity regarding Jay-Z albums when she has a more-than business relationship with Jay-Z.
