I think the most logical conclusion is Ross is just a dude from Carol City who could rap and knew/was friendly with people in the drug crew that ran the area (the Boobie Boys) and once he got into the rap game, they supported him and allowed him to rep the name so they could eat together. They lend him credibility, he gives them a percentage.
