Bruce was the originator of MMA. He did participate in fights against other Masters but no, he wasn't in the professional sport... but there wasn't really a professional sport for his style at his time, or else I'm sure he would've been. Bruce Lee lived the arts, just like some of the fighters did.

Bruce never fought or competed in sanctioned combat so it's not a knock on him to be left out of this. He's far and away the most influential person in the combat sports arena. MMA is still a very young sport so I think the jury is still out on that. As mainstream as it's become it's still looked at as human cockfighting by some and the fan base is mostly young people.
